The kids aren’t being punished. They are separated from the human traffickers that tried to smuggle them in. Many are not their parents, they could be kidnapped, sexually abused, etc. You want to keep kids locked in a jail with such people? That is sick.

Thus, the need for a cleansing event to restore the people's faith in government after the Trumpette's are out of power.
