"The United States has identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children," the statement said. "The activities are similar to preparations the regime made before its April 4, 2017 chemical weapons attack."

"If ... Mr. Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price,” the statement warned.

The White House did not provide any specific evidence to support the claim.

The strike marked the U.S.’s first direct assault on the Syrian government and was one of Trump's most dramatic military orders since taking office.

"Any further attacks done to the people of Syria will be blamed on Assad, but also on Russia and Iran who support him killing his own people," Haley said in a Tweet late Monday.

There is a proper Russian response:

(RT) Russia has slammed Washington’s threats against the Syrian government following a recent White House statement alleging that President Bashar Al-Assad’s forces are preparing to use chemical weapons.

“I am not aware of any information or threat of using chemical weapons,” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Tuesday.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer issued a statement claiming the US “has identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians.”

“We heard about this statement. We don’t know what it’s based on. And, of course, we strongly disagree with the wording ‘another attack,’ because, as you know, despite all the demands of the Russian side, there was no independent international investigation of the previous tragedy with the use of chemical weapons. We do not believe it is possible to rest the responsibility on the Syrian armed forces,” Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman also warned of potential provocations by terrorists.

“You know that cases of the use of toxic chemical agents by militants of Islamic state [IS, formerly ISIS/SIL] and other criminal groups have been established on multiple occasions. There certainly is the potential danger of such provocations recurring,” Peskov stated.

Any threats against the Syrian government are “unacceptable,” according to Peskov, who reiterated the call for an investigation into the attack in Idlib.

“Without carrying out an investigation it is impossible, illegitimate and absolutely wrong, in regards to achieving the final goals on Syrian reconcilement, to put the blame on Assad. Of course, we consider unacceptable any such threats to the legitimate government of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the spokesman said, adding that Moscow considers any use of toxic chemical agents inappropriate.

Syria has denied White House allegations of preparing to use chemical weapons, saying they “foreshadowed a ‘diplomatic battle’” in the UN, according to AP, citing the minister for national reconciliation, Ali Haidar."

Meanwhile President Assad visited the Russian Hmaymim Airbase in the Latakia Governorate’s Jableh District.

Russia warns the US against aggressions

"(TASS) The US should refrain from creating pretexts for new attacks on the Syrian government forces, based on some secret intelligence data, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference in Krasnodar.

“I expect that this time, the United States will take into account the need to actually ensure the non-proliferation of chemical weapons and will refrain from speculating on some intelligence data, which that is secret so no one may see it, in order to provoke others and create pretexts for new attacks on the Syrian government troops fighting against terrorists,” the Russian top diplomat stressed.

Moscow warns US against irresponsible steps in Syria
Moscow expects the US and the European countries to take steps in order to de-escalate the situation in Syria rather than take measures posing a threat to Syria’s territorial integrity, Lavrov said.

“We have shown goodwill concerning all issues,” he said. “As far as Syria goes, everyone supported the initiatives that we drew up together with Turkey and Iran, with the assistance of The US, Jordan and the UN, during the Astana meetings,” Lavrov said. “The next round (of talks – TASS) will take place next week,” he added.

“We would like all participants in the conflict and external players to faithfully implement these initiatives,” the Russian top diplomat stressed. “This is our contribution,” he said.

“I expect that our US and European counterparts active in the region will adopt the same open and clear approach aimed at de-escalating the situation, particularly normalizing the humanitarian situation, by abandoning attempts to seize control over some parts of Syria and put the country’s territorial integrity at risk,” Lavrov pointed out.

Russia to offer proportionate reaction
Russia will offer a dignified reaction to possible US provocations against the Syrian Armed Forces, according to Lavrov.

“Our reaction will be dignified and proportionate to the situation that may take shape,” he said.

The Russian top diplomat also said that the US Secretary of State made a telephone call to inform Moscow that Washington was drawing up a statement about a new chemical weapons attack being allegedly prepared by Damascus.

“To prevent misunderstandings, I can confirm that he called me and warned that the United States allegedly had some information about a new chemical weapons attack prepared by the Syrian government against opposition members,” Lavrov said."

Russia says, the planned false flag is pretext for intervention

"(TASS) Washington’s media campaign that Damascus is allegedly preparing to use chemical weapons comes in preparation for an intervention in Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

The diplomat recalled that the US media campaign backed by London and Paris that Damascus is allegedly preparing a chemical attack is carried out under a traditional scenario already used in a number of regional countries.

“In 2013 the provocation with the alleged use of chemical weapons was a pretext for the West’s direct intervention in Syria. Only Russia’s decisive position saved the situation,” she noted.

“In April 2017, after the alleged incident with the use of chemical weapons in Syria’s Khan Sheikhoun, the current US administration did not make any surprise and dusted off the 2013 scenario (on intervention in Syria) delivering a strike on a sovereign state,” she said.

“The current information campaign is a precursor of a new intervention in Syria,” Zakharova stressed, saying that all facts point to this.

“The scenario will be the same: an incident occurs on a territory controlled by gunmen and civilians become victims,” she said.

“The so-called opposition – that means Jihadists, who in fact do not differ much from the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda (terrorist organizations, outlawed in Russia) but who get assistance from the US and its allies – will announce another ‘crime of the regime’.”"
