A small example: a can of the best blackcurrant jam (which is not even availavle in America) costs ... 99 cents. In America, a can ofa disgusting jam with a high sugar content (otherwise it is impossible - the Americans will not gain weight, and then -they will not buy medications or nutritional supplementsto reduce weight - business is business!) - 4 dollars 50 cents!

Well, I'm not talking about the quality of products and their diversity.

My parents bought their second home in 1962 with at Ten Year Mortgage which was considered pretty normal at the time. My Mother did not work, yet they had no problem paying it back as well as paying for everything else. It was the ONLY debt they ever had. No car loans and no credit cards. My Dad carried at least $3K on him in CASH every day for "emergency" money. This was at a time when you could buy a nice car for that.
