A common refrain from those opposing U.S. military action overseas such as Syria, Iraq and elsewhere is that "The U.S. can't afford another war".

And they are invariably talking about financially as they often add "we're broke" or refer to the deficit and/or national debt.

Come on.

Do people really believe that if Iran seized control of the Straits of Hormuz or North Korea launched a massive attack across the DMZ that the U.S. would have to throw up its hands and accept it because we "can't afford it".

In World War Two, the U.S. spent many times the percentage of GDP it does now on the military and did for fully 4 years.

The US can afford anything that occurs outside it's national borders but can't afford to fix a traffic light within it's borders.
It's the hypocrisy and the pilfering.

Are traffic lights normally a federal govt. problem?

The US could spend > $2.5T per yr on a war and not go another penny in debt.

History teacher for the last decade. HQT status

I knew it, he is both massively retarded and employee of a war profiteer.

their motto "What is good for the Military Industrial Complex is good for America."

"Can't afford another war" is a phrase created by the media to excuse the democrat regime from the responsibility of protecting the US from our enemies. The US is the greatest Military force on the planet in technology and training but thanks to the chicken shit democrat party the US Military has been forced to engage the enemy on the enemy's terms. US Soldiers die from IED and sniper fire and they don't gain an inch of ground in Afghanistan while the president gives a party for the family of a freaking traitor. How out of touch can you get?

Republicans have discovered the secret to paying for more wars. "Tax Cuts". It worked for Iraq. By paying for war with tax cuts, you can have unlimited wars.

I'm all in favor of finishing wars. As for starting them... we should take a poll of the military about which countries they'd most be willing to die in when the Republican party takes back over and go for the top 3. It will surely boost approval ratings

Some lessons everyone especially politicians need to learn.

It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.

A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.

You are quite wrong. In real dollars, we were spending just as much on Defense during Bush as we did at the peak of spending in WWII.

And we are not in a world war.

As for this "we can't afford it" straw man, do you think we have an endless supply of robot soldiers in the basement of the Pentagon, who never tire and can do five, six, seven, eight combat deployments?

When are you going to enlist, chickenhawk?
