Why do people continue to go on cruises??

Next month, we're going for two weeks to the Caribbean. I've never wanted to go on a cruise ship but has anyone gone on a river cruise? We're talking about including a river cruise on our trip next year.

Not yet, but would like to do that in Europe and South America...down the Rhine, Danube, Amazon rivers...Hope u enjoy ur first cruise...but 2 weeks may be a bit long for ur 1st time! (Our longest was 10 days...and we loved every minute! Got some great jewelry deals at a duty free port as well!)

oops, I was unclear.

We're not going on a cruise to the Caribbean. Just a nice long vacation.

Not interested in a cruise ship but the river cruise looks fun and interesting. And, they're not all that expensive. We had planned a long trip to the south of France and Belgium this year but changed our minds and going to Caribbean. Next year, we hope to do the France trip and thinking to make a river cruise part of that trip.

i highly recommend them. check out viking river cruises. they do a great job. i've taken a few of their cruises

Hubby and I went on several cruises and found them enjoyable...it's a cost effective way to explore different cultures within a given area ( eg: The Caribbean, Central America, the Greek Isles and other Mediterranean Venues)...and one is certainly not "confined" visiting all these places. The days aboard ship are relaxing...and the vastness of the ocean adds to a sense of openness on deck...
Actually, exposure to disease is no greater than staying at a gated resort...as long as reasonable hygiene and precautions ( hand cleansing, etc.) are observed...and u don't let sick people board the ship!

Hey, doc... I've always wondered about how is the night-sky viewing out in the middle of the ocean? Do the ship's lights interfere, or are the stars right up there in the kajillions?

If you can stand in the dark the stars at sea are amazing! No moon helps too. The Milky Way is like a sparkling streak across the sky.

Yes ^^^ and if one rises early they will enjoy a sunrise and a sunset every day. We have taken five, Mexican Riviera twice, Western Caribbean, Panama Canal and trans Atlantic.

Our favorite was Royal Caribbean, next NCL and last Princess. If one stays out of the casinos, forego alcohol and chooses the land excursions with care (do your homework) a cruise is economical and one of the most relaxing ways to vacation.

A river cruise is something I would love to go on. But not an ocean cruise. Those Viking Cruise commercials really do beckon me, on every level.

if you have the opportunity, do one. it is an amazing experience. Viking is a top notch company too. we've done a few of theirs and intend on doing pretty much every one they have to offer. southern france is the summer, the mediteranean next and portugal the following. You visit multiple destinations and your hotel travels with you.

I prefer to travel without crowds. I like to go it with one companion. I really dislike traveling with others and doing a plan of events that includes them.

Been there....

river cruises are smaller and more intimate. you can choose to participate in group activities or go off on your own. you spend most of the time in port and cruise at night while you sleep. so you can either chose to do a group tour or go off on your own,

Yes, I know.

The Viking River cruises are fine.

I would not go on a large carrier ocean cruise.

Check out Viking's catalogs and/or website. They have different levels (expense) of staterooms. Looks like very nice, private patio/deck areas.

I've traveled with groups but also prefer to go with just my spouse.

We're really looking forward to the Caribbean trip next month. We're just really feeling the need to get away.

Been on several in the Caribbean, My first cruise was on the Windjammer Fantome a four masted schooner. Since then I have been on a few Carnival and Royal Caribbean ships. If you get a room with a balcony you will not regret it. Looking forward to Cruising Alaska and maybe a river cruise or two for a change. I cannot see how anyone cannot have a great time on a cruise.

Their supposed to be alot of fun although I've never gone.

You gotta go on at least one. I thought I was going to be miserable the first time I went but had a ball.

I definetly want to go, are they better to go single or as a couple?

it all depends on the cruise. some are general population, you get a mix of everyone. others are geared towards singles. all have different activities and ammenities. some spend more time at sea, others have more ports of call with busier agendas.

Some people seem to enjoy being packed in with a bunch of other people. I'm not into the things cruises offer so it isn't tempting at any price. For me a cruise is kayaking around the Sound, you see so much you never would otherwise.
