50 years ago (Pickthall translation which a Pakistani surgeon assured
me was an excellent translation----not that he knew arabic)

Apparently not. For most of Islam's history, Jews were welcomed to Muslim countries. When they were expelled or persecuted in Christian countries they were welcomed in Muslim ones. If you're interested in the history of anti-semitism, you might research the early Crusades, the Holocaust, pograms, ghettos, expulsion of Jews from Spain and England, and Jewry Laws.
