The founders wanted the capital to move every decade or so. Keep one step ahead of those who would want wield influence.

Reading a great book that traces this history and growth of the Influence Industry from WW II to present. We really don't have anything close to a Republic.

Imagine if… yeas ago, back in that D.C. hotel lobby where all the congressmen went to drink after work, the first time someone offered a congressman a donation and asked only that he reconsider his stance on a vote or policy--that congressman took out a gun and shot the would-be lobbyist. Then all the other drunk congressman clapped and cheered. We might have had a chance as a country...
