So tell us, will you vote for Hulk Hogan or the like again in 2020?

Last year as I sat at the table with my mail-in ballot the choice for US Senator was between Martha McSally and Kyrsten Sinema. My old way would have been to randomly pick anybody else listed. Since over the past 38 years that wasn't getting anywhere I finally gave up. Now in races where I simply don't have a preference, I'll go along with the wife's choice. So Kyrsten Sinema it was. Took almost a week to determine the winner for that office, so it did give me a sense that my wife's votes mattered.

In all likelihood next year she'll produce 2 votes for the Democrat but I doubt that it'll matter this time around.

I know you're too stupid to understand this, but a vote "matters" regardless of whether the candidate you voted for wins. It counts, as in gets counted, and recorded as support for what you believe in. That is, unless you vote for a candidate you don't actually believe in because you are scared of some other candidate. Let me try to interrupt the Libertarian-Authoritarian discussion here. I stand outside both “all-American” ideological extremes. I’m more sympathetic to the libertarians since many of them see both parties — as I do — as parties of big money and special interests, often just two disfunctional peas in a pod. I maybe voted once or twice for a mainstream presidential candidate in the last 50 years — so I guess I have credentials as an iconoclast. I do almost always vote down ticket if I can find a decent young blood or somebody I don’t despise. In local elections I vote for the best man or woman, usually but not always a Democrat.

Sometimes I vote for a minor party Presidential candidate as a protest, just to remind the bosses that I’m still here. They don’t seem to notice or care ... of course. I’m a supporter of www.fairvote.org electoral reforms to open up our system to third parties. I would have voted for Bernie if he was the Democratic candidate. Not that I am a socialist. Rather I’m an American internationalist, a social-democrat, an anti-imperialist. Bernie wouldn’t have been able to change much even if elected, and maybe would have had a heart attack trying, but I figure he sure would have riled things up for the better.

Elections every 4 years don’t define my politics. I’ve always been political, and most of us arguing here are too, right? Respectfully, I can’t say I like the arguments I read here from most of you guys, whether you are right libertarians or right populist authoritarians. Some of the more thoughtful — and decent — Democrats and Republicans and Independents here I really do respect. We may differ, but they are not obnoxious and have their heads screwed on straight.

The way things are headed I sort of hope the brain-dead Biden is elected, but I haven’t made up my mind to hold my nose and vote for him. My worries about Trump and the lunacy of many of his supporters hasn’t driven me that far ... yet.

I figure we may be entering a period of real domestic chaos and mass unemployment, war, more pandemics, financial crisis, even Bread Lines and a new Great Depression. We need a Roosevelt-like figure to save capitalism (even if it is already becoming statified “Federal Reserve capitalism”) and to re-establish international trade & political cooperation.

Last year as I sat at the table with my mail-in ballot the choice for US Senator was between Martha McSally and Kyrsten Sinema. My old way would have been to randomly pick anybody else listed. Since over the past 38 years that wasn't getting anywhere I finally gave up. Now in races where I simply don't have a preference, I'll go along with the wife's choice. So Kyrsten Sinema it was. Took almost a week to determine the winner for that office, so it did give me a sense that my wife's votes mattered.

In all likelihood next year she'll produce 2 votes for the Democrat but I doubt that it'll matter this time around.
