The men demanded money and ordered the doctor to open a gun safe, from which they stole several guns, police said.

The victim was forced to drive the two men, who were in the back seat of the vehicle, to a nearby bank where they made several withdrawals from an ATM, police said. The doctor was forced to drive to another location, where he was told to get out of the vehicle. But as he did so, he pulled a handgun from inside the driver’s door and fired multiple shots at the suspects, striking Edwin Robinson, 23, killing him, police said.

Investigators said the second suspect ran from the scene, hopped into a tan SUV and drove off.
