Though I generally resist changing the historic traditional design, maybe collectors will enjoy the increase in value. And I find it ironic that Hamilton campaigned to kill the national central bank and lobbied against paper currency as concentrating too much power in hands of bankers. And he's being removed and replaced.

Now for the woman who is going to be commemorated,
if the bills are going to be friendly to the blind/visually impaired
why not honor Helen Keller? She made more of a statement
about free speech and press, going from being cut off from the world
to being a worldwide lecturer and author promoting social change,
including leading the way for inclusion and accommodation in education.
She was the first deaf/blind person to receive a formal education and degree
at a time this was not even considered at all. What a statement about education.

Who would you vote for to replace Hamilton on the 10 dollar bill?

Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Jane Adams, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks.

Helen Keller will probably get passed because she was a member of the socialist party.

Even the MORE reason to include her!
We need to show there are GOOD socialists.
Nothing wrong with your beliefs when you take responsibility for them.

The problem with either socialists, capitalists, anarchists etc
is when you try to make OTHER people responsible for YOUR beliefs.

That's the real battle.
We need to have good role models to show that Socialists can be good leaders, and push for justice in agreeable ways, and don't have to mean living off welfare that is paid for by other people's taxes who don't believe in that.

If we're letting-in Socialists, then we need to toss Jane Addams (1860-1935) into the mix... the Mother of Social Work in this country...
  • do-gooder
  • peacenik
  • lesbian
  • Chicago City Hall political machine antagonist and political advocate for the poor and for public health and for social justice
  • instrumental in developing first child labor laws, triggered by the abuses of the Chicago Stock Yards
  • one of the leaders of the suffragette - early womens' rights - movement
  • Nobel Peace Prize winner (back in the day when that actually meant something)
  • legacy huge social service agency that outlasted her by 75-80 years
  • I-90 tollway in northern Illinois named after her
  • memorialized (metaphorically modeled after) in Star Trek (TOS) episode: "City on the Edge of Forever" (guest star: Joan Collins)

I think I've established that I have little or no use for the fetishism some people on the right have for the "Founding Fathers", rich slave-owners who didn't want to pay their fair share in taxes and saved us from the horrors of being Canadians.

that said, Alexander Hamilton stands head and shoulders above anyone they've proposed replacing him with. His contributions to the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, the fact that he established our monetary system. And yes, even the way he died, taking down the career of the reprehensible Aaron Burr with him, was a bigger accomplishment than anything done by any of the feel-good "Womyn" nominees they've come up with.

If you are really, really determined to replace someone on the currency, how about getting Useless S. Grant off the $50.00, because he was kind of a worthless president.
