It comes down to whether you believe the date on the actual plaque placed on the building where the Klan originated or the History Channel. I tend to believe the people who placed the plaque got it right! They included the month ( December) the day(24th) and the year (1865) while the HC only mentioned the wrong year of 1866.

I've posted that image many times before --- it was put up by the Daughters of the Confederacy in the 1920s, apparently feeling the founders of the Klan were snubbed by not being mentioned in "Birth of a Nation". Decades later a guy named Don Massey bought the building, took the plaque off, turned it around and put it back so that all it shows now is its blank back.

Presumably ---- using the same logic as the OP here ---- Don Massey must have been a Democrat.
