29% Say Socialism Compatible with American Values

I'm surprised the number isn't higher. I suspect half of the people living in the United States don't even know what American values are.

90% of the people in America do not know what socialism is, including every Trumpian on this forum.

I know enough to know I don't want it. Tell me all about the great benefits of socialism. Go ahead.

It's a pretty good system for raising an army quickly. If the government controls your basic necessities, what are you going to say when they tell you to boot up?

I don't think so. No one wants what Venezuela has but they do want what Denmark has. Social Security and Medicare are immensely popular. Health care will be the winning Dem issue since the GOP has nothing to offer. Of course if the Dems go off the rails (e.g., reparations) they will sink themselves.

Yep, we all want free stuff, unfortunately some of us have some common sense.

Some.

Medicare for all means higher taxes for all. People with jobs have health insurance through their jobs. They're not going to vote overwhelmingly for a democrat that wants to raise their taxes to pay for health insurance for low income or those that don't want to work.

but roads are socialism ya like roads dont ya

I don't know, those Danes are among the happiest people on the planet. They must be doing something right.

Yep. And it has little to do with their style of government. Same with Venezuela. The Danes could probably make any form of government work fine. And Venezuela would be a mess regardless. Their successes, and failures, are societal, and deeply rooted in their distinct cultures. Just like ours.

We lean toward freedom in this country because it's required. Our country is made up of people from all over the world, with different backgrounds and values. Giving any of these groups the power to force their will on the rest is a recipe for disaster. "Live and let live" isn't just a moral ideal. In the US, it's a practical necessity.

The audience at a Fox News town hall erupted in cheers and applause when asked by moderator Bret Baier if they would support Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I-Vt.) "Medicare for All" proposal.

They should have also asked that same audience if they would support giving half of their paycheck to the government to pay for it.

There are none that I know of, which is why I am a free market libertarian

Let me guess, are they happy with their tax rates?

No one likes paying taxes but it is the GOP that is focused on rates. I am satisfied if we get what I pay for and I'm going to pay for healthcare one way or another. I would prefer that the people who make decisions on what care I get are not motivated solely by profit.

Great, you're all for implementing a healthcare plan based on a hundred or so Bernie Sanders supporters...without understanding the impact of such a system.

I pay taxes, I understand healthcare, and I support an overhaul of our current system.

Do you also understand Medicare-for-all would become Medicaid-for-all?
