You can't take an entire population and use it to calculate mortality percentage. You take only the people who have tested positive and divide that into the number who have died. So 1.4% mortality is correct.

What about including the unknown number (the remaining population) that may asymptomatic, and not yet tested ?
By taking the entire population and collecting the data, as to the amount of people who have died from a specific cause, is indeed an accurate way to calculate a percentage.
You can easily use the same analogy on automobile deaths, etc...
