a black pope?

Oh I didn't know that.

And you still may not.

I just read that 3 prior Popes have been from "Africa" but that does not necessarily mean that they were black.

St. Victor looks like he may have been a black man.

St. Militiades is less clear to my highly discerning eye.

And St. Gelasius looks like a black man, too.

Not the best photographs I've ever seen.

Would a Black Pope really make people shit their pants? :dunno:

You saw what happened when we got we black president. I don't see it bothering Catholics as much as fundamentalist Christians, who'd see it as another sign of the end times.

pssst, Hell, every fundamentalist Christian I've spoken to concerning the black man in scriptures, responds the same way you people are responding. None seem to care that Pres O is black either.
It's called "worship" in the prophetic scriptures. Those scriptures say that the white Americans would worship the black man in the last days, AND would give their kingdom to him.

No it doesn't

Pope St. Militiades was a light black man.

Has There Ever Been A Black Or African Pope?

But were these three African popes "black" in the sense that we would define race today? And did it matter back then?
The Rev. Cyprian Davis, a Benedictine priest who is a leading historian of African-American Catholicism, notes that by Pope Victor's time, the Roman aristocracy had large holdings in North Africa. It's not clear, however, whether these so-called African popes came from those families or from the rural, somewhat darker-skinned indigenous population known as the Berbers.
Davis said the best bet for what we would consider a "black" pope is probably Victor, but he added that the church and the empire of those early centuries were a mosaic of colors and ethnicities.
"It's important for us to look and say that yes, the early papacy was not white. No, it was much more diverse than you might think," Davis said.
Moreover, race as we think of it today did not have quite the same meaning back then.
"When you say 'black pope,' you have to think Roman Empire, not African-American," as Bellitto put it. Some popes in those days -- along with many renowned saints and martyrs and bishops like St. Augustine of Hippo -- probably looked more like modern Arabs than any pontiff of the last millennium."

And you still may not.

They did not have photographs back then.

The Apostle Paul said of the black man in 2nd Thessalonians 2:4, that he would oppose and exalt himself above the European white man in the last days, and would sit as Pope in the Catholic Church, shewing himself that he is the Holy Father.

Will the next pope be black?

Uh, it says nothing of the sort.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 (New American Standard Bible)

2 Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the [a]coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a [c]message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the [d]apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above [e]every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. 5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His [f]coming; 9 that is, the one whose [g]coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and [h]signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God [j]will send upon them [k]a deluding influence so that they will believe [l]what is false, 12 in order that they all may be [m]judged who did not believe the truth, but [n]took pleasure in wickedness.

Thank you for demonstrating that you don't understand jack squat about the opposition to Obama's policies.

The Bible doesn't mention "whites", "blacks", or Americans

That's speculation, not fact. Some sources say they were black, others say they weren't.

No it is not speculation.
The ones who say that they weren't are the racists of this world.
They all came from Africa and the paintings show that they were Black.
The Catholic church keeps excellent and accurate records.

Except that's not true.

They probably weren't white, but they weren't "black" either. The only one most historians agree was of color was victor and he most likely looked more like a modern day Arabic man than your average black man.

if they want to continue their "club" and stop the hemorrhaging, they better pick a black or a mexican or an oriental.

"The Catholic church keeps excellent and accurate records."

The Church of Rome? That church? It certainly does keep records. Accurate and excellent, debatable.

Dot Com's membership credentials in Club Liberal are close to getting revoked.

He never read the memo about properly respectful and deferential terminology.

No
There have been 3 Black Popes before.

Nope.
Their families came from north Africa but not from the Berber indigenous populations.
Victor may have been considered a "black" Pope but more like what Libyans and Egyptians look like.
However, you are right in that the Catholic church hierarchy has also been very diverse.

Verses 10, 11, and 12 describes you!! Problem is, you're so delusional you can't see it.
