A Question About The Crucifixion

Record from America at the time:

"And it came to pass that when the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the storm, and the tempest, and the quakings of the earth did cease—for behold, they did last for about the space of three hours; and it was said by some that the time was greater; nevertheless, all these great and terrible things were done in about the space of three hours—and then behold, there was darkness upon the face of the land.

20 And it came to pass that there was thick darkness upon all the face of the land, insomuch that the inhabitants thereof who had not fallen could feel thevapor of darkness;

21 And there could be no light, because of the darkness, neither candles, neither torches; neither could there be fire kindled with their fine and exceedingly dry wood, so that there could not be any light at all;

22 And there was not any light seen, neither fire, nor glimmer, neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars, for so great were the mists of darkness which were upon the face of the land.

23 And it came to pass that it did last for the space of three days that there was no light seen; and there was great mourning and howling and weeping among all the people continually; yea, great were the groanings of the people, because of the darkness and the great destruction which had come upon them. (3 Nephi 8:19-23)
"Phlegon was a Greek historian who wrote an extensive chronology around AD 137: In the fourth year of the 202nd Olympiad (i.e., AD 33) there was ‘the greatest eclipse of the sun’ and that ‘it became night in the sixth hour of the day [i.e., noon] so that stars even appeared in the heavens. There was a great earthquake in Bithynia, and many things were overturned in Nicaea.’7 "

Per Africanus: "On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down....
Africanus writes of the darkness as a global event. Tertullian, the famous second century apologist, also hails the darkness as a ‘cosmic’ or ‘world event’. Appealing to skeptics, he wrote: At the moment of Christ’s death, the light departed from the sun, and the land was darkened at noonday, which wonder is related in your own annals, and is preserved in your archives to this day.10
"Apparently, Tertullian could state with confidence that documentation of the darkness could be found in legitimate historical archives."

With things so far back in antiquity, we have very few original accounts. What you have are translations of the original accounts that are passed down. Only plebes and know-nothings assume that this means they can't be *accurate*. Among scholars, it is accepted that this is the nature of ancient historical verification.

Unless it's Schrodinger's cat.

From my recollection when Jesus was crucified, when he died, the world was shrouded in darkness. However, astronomers in China and the Americas recorded no such event (nor did chroniclers in Rome or Judea). So if the event actually happened, why didn't it show up anywhere else?

It makes no sense whatsoever, that a God would have Himself crucified in order to fulfil His purpose.

It makes no sense that a God would be human, or that he would have a human son.

To us Muslims, reason and logic are the origins of our religion.

Nvm that there is NO scientific evidence presented there! :lmao:

No one asked for scientific evidence.

But if you want some feel free to do a Google search on the volcanic record that occurred in 33ad.

Alma 42

Ill sum it up but i encourage you to read it, my friend. It explains it in more detail.

God cannot lie.
God has set eternal law.
There is a punishment to that law.
That punishment separates us from God.
Every man but Christ has broken that law.
Therefore, we must all be separated from God or He becomes a liar and is unjust.

Can God cease to be honest or just? No.
Is God also merciful? Yes

But how can He be without making Himself unjust and a liar?

This is where Christ comes in. He voluntarily took upon Himself our pains and our punishments.

Because someone is willing to take our punishments we can be reconciled with God.

Mercy can have her own

Justice can claim those who reject mercy.

It's only with an atonement that God can be honest, just, and merciful.

But the church moved back his b-day to 6bc to fit the Herod stories Even though this misses Lysanias in the accounts by almost 30 years since Lysanias passed in 35bc. Furthermore John says Jesus was closer to 50 so 33ad is a joke especially if you know history whereby the only a.d. era christ was Theudas by the Jordan river.
