The actual history ---- and I dare you to challenge me on it --- is in the surviving Confederate veterans of the Civil War (none of whom had a political party) and the tradition of "slave patrols" in the first iteration (1865-ca. 1872) and in the Lost Cause Revisionism movement and the attendant atmosphere of bigotry and racism of its time in the second iteration (1915) (another re-founder with no political party) which went on to agitate against blacks, Jews, Catholics, labor unions and immigrants (all of them Democratic constituents) as well as drinkers, gamblers, philanderers and people who dared not to go to church.

Perhaps you'd care to take a stab at essplainig why a "democrat" [sic] group endorsed two Republican POTUS candidates,ran a viscous smear campaign against at least one of their opponents (Al Smith, because he was Catholic), ran another campaign to remove a governor who tried to kick them out (Walton, Oklahoma), and pushed to elect Republican governors in Indiana (Jackson), Colorado (Morley), Maine (Brewster) and Kansas (Paulen) as well as a Senator in Colorado (Means), a mayor in Portland Ore (Baker) and four-fifths of the city council of Anaheim.

Oh and this 1951 anti-masking law in Georgia would have been passed by, as was the case in other Southern states --- Democrats. And technically the Klan itself ceased to exist in the early 1940s after the IRS slapped it with back taxes and the governor of Georgia, the same state, revoked its charter (Arnall) -- another Democrat.
