Economically things were in better balance in the 50s and 60s. But there was also jim crow and tremendous racism and segregation in our country. A stain and embarrassment in our history. I’d say that human rights is more important than the fiscal elements you mentioned. Especially given the standard of living increases that have occurred as well.you would have to work two or maybe three jobs today... pretty sure in the 50's and 60's you could graduate with a HS diploma and find a career. that can still be done but not at the level of before and its much harder. Today you better have a degree.
And yes on average people had more self respect back then.. no one wanted to be seen as on welfare or taking a handout.
Not that the high tier tax rate was near 69%- 90% back then. What do you think of that?
