If Saint Browning wanted extra whistles and bells on a M1911 he would have put them on there.

I carried one in Vietnam and actually fired it on two occasions I can remember. They are actually shitty combat pistols. I wouldn't want to get hit by one but if I needed a pistol for combat nowadays I would chose one of my others before the 1911s.

However, they are Americana and we love them for that.

Well in a way he did, on one of the early pre-1911 Browning designs produced by Colt a safety was incorporated into the rear sight!
