I am now a non smoker. I did smoke cigarettes, cigars and weed during my college days but quit those habits once I started my career. I do have an occasional alcoholic drink but keep it to a minimum.

Quite a few did because councils closed some roads off, created wider pavements etc.. for outside seating space so you could eat and smoke. That was grand if your business was on the ground floor. Some moved, some adapted, and quite a few closed.

I'm a non-smoker, never smoked in my life, I've always been against smoking bans. More people die from diabetes than tobacco, where's the sugar ban. More die from car accidents, where's the ban on vehicles.

May have been different in the US, but in the UK, everyone can't just spread out at ground level.
