Having said that, there has never been a case in the entire world where wholesale asset freezing has taken place like this.
Mastercard and Visa freezing out Russia? That means debit cards don't work anymore either. And banks don't actually have cash sitting around for everyone to withdraw. You would be surprised just how little actual cash branch banks have on hand in comparison to the population they serve.
You can support such a thing perhaps, applying pressure to Putin by his own population suffering deeply for his decision.

In my opinion, there is a desperate need to have legislation written that it is unlawful for any organization that holds funds for any purpose to freeze those funds without a court order. So GoFundMe for instance, cannot freeze accounts without getting a court to approve it.

MC and VISA are not credit cards (or the issuing bank), they are the Card networks. Russia still had their home grown system MIR that will allow Russians do use their credit cards.
