Assault rifles for self defense

No, that is how you want to define it. If we actually used that definition it would exclude things like this, which is a pistol grip.

Pistol grip - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
read the assault weapons legislation again:

Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device that enables launching or firing rifle grenades, though this applies only to muzzle mounted grenade launchers and not those mounted externally).

does that drill meet that definition?

Would it if I added a folding stock and a bayonet mount?
only if it met the following:

Semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip
Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or suppressor
Barrel shroud that can be used as a hand-hold
Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more
A semi-automatic version of a fully automatic firearm.

Federal Assault Weapons Ban - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

which is obviously untrue. nice try at a deflection though.

and under the assault weapons ban it would have been illegal. although its manufacturer state it is a law enforcement tactical rifle, not a hunting rifle.

Savage 10FP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under the assault weapons ban there is absolutely no reason to ban it, it doesn't even have the pistol grip you think makes a weapon an assault weapon.
reread the definition under the 1994 law. it has multiple requirements that had to be met, not just a single one. under the definition of the pistol grip it did meet the definition, however it did not meet the rest of the definition so it would not have been classified as an "assault weapon"

I suggest you reread it, since the grip is integrated into the stock it is not a pistol grip under the law.

Many gun owners are kooks. And that concerns the rest of us that aren't kooks. I don't think that we need to make certain that kooks are armed and dangerous to others.

Many Freemasons are kooks. And that concerns the rest of us that aren't kooks. It might be time to make sure that Freemasons can no longer gather and practice kookery.

Only pistols are banned under your version of the law? Maybe you should rethink your position that the Bushmaster would be banned, since it is, quite obviously, not a pistol.

pistol grip definition (already provided)

"PISTOL GRIP THAT PROTRUDES CONSPICUOUSLY BENEATH THE ACTION OF THE WEAPON" MEANS A GRIP THAT ALLOWS FOR A PISTOL STYLE GRASP IN WHICH THE WEB OF THE TRIGGER HAND BETWEEN THE THUMB AND INDEX FINGER CAN BE PLACED BELOW THE TOP OF THE EXPOSED PORTION OF THE TRIGGER WHILE FIRING.

then again it doesnt matter since it is not a semi automatic rifile with accepts a magazine.

Are you educated enough to start infringing on 2nd amendment rights? No. Porbably not. Turd. Go run.

actually the 2nd amendment by definition reads "the right to carry arms." it say nothing specifically about the right to purchase arms. so limiting the ability to purchase arms clearly does not violate the 2nd amendment.

Tell me something, what makes a stalk like this:

BCIAT32L.jpg

inherently more dangerous than the same stalk without the thumbhole?

actually the gun community refers to them as assault rifles as well.

assault rifles plural of as·sault ri·fle
Noun
A rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use.

To ban these types of rifles, and I would assume pistols and shotguns too, would leave nothing but revolvers, bolt action rifles, and break action shotguns.

Can we agree that this is where proponents of tougher gun regulations would like to take us, so we can move past trying to define weapons?
based on the 1994 definition of assault weapons, it leaves several different types of rifles, hand guns and shot guns left for the avid hunter, marksman or recreational shooter to own and operate. all of which are more than adequate to be used to protect a family.

id like to know a specific reason why gun advocates believe that only high powered assault rifles are sufficient for protection?

The moment you call an AR-15 clone (which shoots a pipsqueak .223 round) "high powered", you prove that you have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what you are blabbering about and should be ignored.

55 gr (4 g) Nosler ballistic tip 3,240 ft/s (990 m/s) 1,282 ft·lbf (1,738 J)
