Barack Obama's response to Donald Trump's claims of wiretapping does not deny it happened, merely that he ordered it.

Trump specifically named Obama as the principal behind the alleged criminal wiretap. Obama, like any intelligent person, is only going to address the specific charge that is made.

Let's be real, the organs of government do not notify the President about everything they do. It is possible that someone requested authorization for a wiretap, got a FISA-court order for it and implemented it. Be that as it may, if Trump was wiretapped, there will be a court order for it. Trump need only declassify the thing (assuming it is classified) and release it.

Trump has got to learn that he cannot just make outlandish claims of criminal conduct without producing solid evidence for it. For better or worse, like it or not, Trump is POTUS and that means he's in the "major league." That means, among other things, that when he makes fanciful claims such as the wiretap one, he's got to be able to "put up or shutup."
