Love God and love one another. That's it. That's all you're supposed to do - love.
NO, that is not all. Love justice, be humble, and be kind, period. Three things are required.Love God and love one another. That's it. That's all you're supposed to do - love.
I'm just going by what Jesus told us, my brother.NO, that is not all. Love justice, be humble, and be kind, period. Three things are required.
He has told you, O mortal, what is good;I'm just going by what Jesus told us, my brother.
Matthew 22:36-40
New International Version
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
I don't know who your examples are of Christian, whether they are people you know or media reports, but I would like you to keep in mind so many of our Christian actions fall under, "Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing." So much is between us and God, and so many of us have so little, we have to trust a little kindness and a little effort, with the grace of God, goes a long way. And, Christians ain't exactly the most loving people on the planet, there are MANY instances where they have banded together to try to get rid of whatever they considered "sinful" or "against God". Not really for any other reason other than it went against what they personally believed.
Anyone who has been on these forums more than, say, 6 months, knows that... assuming this forum is a good sampling of what human beings are like.. and it is.. humans don't know diddly about REAL love.. Only Jesus can give a person that. Only Jesus knows what it is.The Beatles said it simply and yet, so beautifully. All you need is love
And I don't like the Ghandi who slept with his underage nieces eitherAnd.......................one might do good to remember what Ghandi said once when asked about Christ................"I like your Christ very much, but I don't really like your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ".
If you love your children -- or your neighbor -- you do everything in your power to stop them from hurting themselves ..if your 2 year old wants to touch a hot stovetop, is it "love" to tolerate that? Or do you stop him from hurting himself?Love God and love one another. That's it. That's all you're supposed to do - love.
You beat me too it.The Beatles said it simply and yet, so beautifully. All you need is love
The irony is that your example leans towards progressive values. If you love your children -- or your neighbor -- you do everything in your power to stop them from hurting themselves ..if your 2 year old wants to touch a hot stovetop, is it "love" to tolerate that? Or do you stop him from hurting himself?
Liberals are like 2 year olds. They always demand to touch the red hot stovetop. Some of us try to stop them from convincing everyone else that touching the hot stove is a good idea
"For there are three that testify."
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
"who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,"
"Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:"
The English Standard Version (ESV) Bible is a new, essentially literal Bible translation that combines word-for-word precision and accuracy with literary excellence, beauty, and depth of meaning...

Second, the ESV is special because it is a “word-for-word” translation. The Bible says every word was “breathed out by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). For this reason, the ESV seeks to translate the original Greek and Hebrew words with the greatest possible accuracy and precision.

Third, the ESV is special because it carries forward the great historic stream of Bible versions in English—with literary excellence, beauty, and depth of meaning, in a fresh and compelling way.

Would you believe it took nearly 500 years to translate the ESV Bible? That’s because the ESV builds on the great translations of the past—including William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1526 and the King James Version (KJV) of 1611.
But the ESV Bible also builds on the best Christian scholarship of the last 100 years. The result is a fresh and compelling Bible translation with a timeless quality, that’s trustworthy and true ...
The result is a Bible that conveys the timeless quality of God’s Word and that remains trustworthy and true to the original words breathed out by God. As Moses wrote more than 3,000 years ago, the words of God are “your very life, and by this word you shall live” (Deuteronomy 32:47).
