Yes, he did that way back. As mayor of Burlington IIRC.
He did that because he understands the distinction between socialism, commuism, Marxism, the USSR, "fucking millions", "mental institutions" and sticking one's thumbs in one's ears going "booga booga".

Some however prefer to stay with the comic book version.

Actually he still claims to be a socialist, what brand of socialist I don't know, and honestly don't care. I just made a simple statement of fact, do with it what you will.

My references above are all from this thread spewed by various posters with obviously no clue what socialist means. I asked one point-blank for a definition. He ran away.

Bernie holds the distinction of facing, as an independent, a candidate who was endorsed and supported by BOTH the Democratic and Republican parties -- and he won that election.

We need more of that.

Mine stands. There's been no rational counterpoint made here at all. We've had invocations of the USSR, Marx "fucking millions", "morons", "old geezers", "mental institutions", the "Democrat Party", a diversion to Bernie's wife, general repeated patter of "what's wrong with you people", "dope smoking" and some nice Google Images of prisons and a homeless man. Nothing with any substance.

Claiming something, doesn't do it for me. Republicans claimed Social Security would lead to communism. If the attacks increase, however, it might mean some Republican fear is about, and when the word communism begins to be used you know the fear is serious. Communism is the biggest gun in the Republican arsenal.
