It is written:
Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!
It would be better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
Take heed unto yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him, and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent, thou shalt forgive him. - Luke 17: 1- 4
It is probably the most natural thing in the world for any child to believe in God unless they have been misled or harmed by someone they trusted. Jesus used a small child as an example of one that should not be harmed. I believe when someone harms a child there is a very serious judgment for such a one. Children should never be harmed. Yet in this teaching Jesus is actually teaching about offenses. Because when a person is offended it is very difficult thing sometimes to overcome. Depending upon what it is - it could stay with them their entire life!
Therefore we should be mindful of what we are doing in regards to our behavior toward others and before others and especially toward & before children! As adults, we set the example and children are very impressionable. It is a good thing to keep in mind that we cannot hide from the eyes of God. He is always watching everything. He sees everything that we do.
Luke 17 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.

Matthew 18:6
"If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Mark 9:42
"If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea
1 Corinthians 8:12
When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
