Trump might have a chance to get out of his other transgressions, but the coup attempt would put him in prison for a long time, or worse.

If President Biden did as suggested in the OP, the likelihood that Trump would accept the pardon, and the next day will brag to his base that he lied, and told his base out he easily fooled the President.

Of course a federal pardon has no impact on the fact that at noon on the day Biden is installed as POTUS, that Trump can be taken into custody by US Marshalls, and held for extradition to New York State.

You're right. In the OP, I was thinking that all people have at least some honor in them, and didn't fully consider that this is Trump we are talking about. Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

You know, that almost makes sense. Rump must admit that the election was fair and balanced and then never EVER say anything to the contrary. If he does, it's prosecute to the fullest.
