This is something liberalism failed to define and which determine whether you are moderate or (I can't say radical but..) - NOT everyone are equal, starting from this perspective, Bill Maher does realize that when many failed to, about Obama I may say he does realize that but he does everything the wrong way - you can't turn America that way all of the sudden when many liberals are still not aware of that.

The premise behind "religious freedoms" in the American Declaration of Independence is that "we the people" permit any religious belief as long as it does not interfere with the basic rights of the other citizens. This is outlined in Islam, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as, American Law:

ARTICLE 1: Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam,Aug. 5, 1990, U.N. GAOR, World Conf. on Hum. Rts., 4th Sess., Agenda Item 5, U.N. Doc. A/CONF.157/PC/62/Add.18 (1993) [English translation].

(a) All human beings form one family whose members are united by their subordination to Allah and descent from Adam. All men are equal in terms of basic human dignity and basic obligations and responsibilities, without any discrimination on the basis of race, colour, language, belief, sex, religion, political affiliation, social status or other considerations. The true religion is the guarantee for enhancing such dignity along the path to human integrity.

(b) All human beings are Allah's subjects, and the most loved by Him are those who are most beneficial to His subjects, and no one has superiority over another except on the basis of piety and good deeds.​

Article 1.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.​
Article 2.

Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.​

In true Islam, "no one has superiority over another except on the basis of piety and good deeds." This is not dissimilar to the concept held in America (as well as many other countries of the world), or the Universal Declaration. What is different is the implementation in which these concepts are applied. It should be noted that the Israeli Declaration of Independence makes this promise:

THE STATE OF ISRAEL will be open for Jewish immigration and for the Ingathering of the Exiles; it will foster the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.​

Again --- a concept, not that dissimilar to that of America or the Universal Declaration. By contrast, the current 2003 Basic Law of the Palestinian reads significantly different:

Article 18 Basic Law 2003
Freedom of belief, worship and the performance of religious functions are guaranteed, provided public order or public morals are not violated.

Palestinian Declaration of Independence 1988
The State of Palestine shall be for Palestinians, wherever they may be therein to develop their national and cultural identity and therein to enjoy full equality of rights. Their religious and political beliefs and human dignity shall therein be safeguarded under a democratic parliamentary system based on freedom of opinion and the freedom to form parties, on the heed of the majority for minority rights and the respect of minorities for majority decisions, on social justice and equality, and on non-discrimination in civil rights on grounds of race, religion or colour or as between men and women, under a Constitution ensuring the rule of law and an independent judiciary and on the basis of true fidelity to the age-old spiritual and cultural heritage of Palestine with respect to mutual tolerance, coexistence and magnanimity among religions.​

I leave it to your interpretation, as to which concept is more in keeping with the Universal Declaration. (Read it carefully! You will notice that there is no right to freedom of religion. Just the promise that your civil rights will not be violated based on religion.)

Its funny to notice that women are not included (yet)..but the idea that not everyone are equal liberates us from the block to judge people, something we do on daily basis and ever since birth we were told its wrong but not only judging - it also would help us embrace pluralism(ethnics) and establish the ground for mutual ideas by understanding not everyone the same - and we can finally move on to establish the next stage for humanity where everyone work together for each other.
