There are a lot of theories going around but Putin being scared of Trump is baseless. There is nothing you can point to that suggests Trump could have or would have brought the world together to oppose Russia. More likely he would have abandoned NATO.

The best answer is that Biden allowed the situation to be created in which Russia's security was challenged.

It's not certain but it's very likely that Trump wouldn't have challenged Russia nearly as soon.

However, the challenge to Russia from America was coming sooner or later. There would have been too much pressure on Trump by the Pentagon, for Trump to hold off indefinitely.

Putin felt Trump was too unpredictable to mess with. Putin feels Biden is weak and can be bullied despite his story of taking on Corn Pop at the pool. Putin also may suspect Biden would not retaliate if Russia launched a first strike on our nation.

Biden doesn’t even want the nuclear football with the launch codes near him.

Putin would not have had the power under Trump mainly because America was becoming energy independent and could have shut of Russian oil right away and since we were a major exporter at the time we could provide gas to Germany without them relying on Russia. Trump exuded strength as well while Biden exudes weakness.
