Body craves drugs...even after death.

Such is the problem when society turns its back on science but then buys into media "interpretations" of science. A peptide/protein/transcription factor persists in the sense that it can still be detected, so a dead former addict still craves drugs? What's next, nucleic acid shampoo?

Here's another view on addiction, one contrary to the mainstream view. The quick summary, if you'd rather not watch it all ...

Rats left alone in a cage preferred opium-laced water. Rats left happily with other rats shunned the opium-laced water.

A million soldiers in Vietnam were using heroin. When they got home, most stopped immediately.

Conclusion: Physical addiction is much less powerful than thought, with environment playing a bigger role.

U.S. Leads the World in Illegal Drug Use

US leads world in substance abuse, WHO finds

and prescription drug use:

Prescription Drug Abuse Worldwide
