The California state Senate passed a series of so-called "gun control" bills today, that mandate a $50 fine and background check for people buying ammunition, and that ban the purchase of ANY rifle that takes a detachable magazine of any size. Even ordinary hunting rifles that fire only one shot for each pull of the trigger, will be banned if they take a detachable cartridge magazine.

The state Senators have not yet explained how any of these measure could have stopped the Sandy Hook shootings that they claimed were the purpose for the new laws... unless the laws are merely the precursor to additional laws that would implement a complete ban and confiscation of all firearms.

The laws will now go to the California Assembly.

Ammunition purchasers would submit their information and a $50 fee to the state Department of Justice which would maintain a list of qualified buyers that would be checked by ammo stores. Purchasers would have to show their driver's license or other ID at the time they buy bullets.

The Senate also approved a bill that would outlaw the sale, purchase and manufacture in California of semiautomatic rifles that can accept detachable magazines. SB 374 also would require those who own such weapons to register them with the state.

Other measures approved by the Senate would ban the possession of ammunition magazines capable of holding more than 10 bullets, and regulate mechanisms, called “bullet buttons,” that allow the quick replacement of ammunition magazines on semiautomatic rifles.

All the bills next go to the Assembly for consideration.

And that Automatic weapons have been banned from the general public since 1934. Right?

More Americans are killed with bare hands than assault rifles.

Putting more controls and monitoring on every gun owner because of a few extremely rare whackjobs is naked bigotry.

Therefore, we should charge every Muslim a $50 fee to attend services at a mosque, since every terrorist was influenced by their attendance at a mosque.

I doubt it's even Constitutional but it's California. And you know what ? Law enforcement will not have to abide by the same rules.

Back to the subject:
Crackpot bills like this used to come up all the time in the Californial legislature, and they were routinely voted down or abandoned in committee.

But they have been electing more and more extreme liberals there, and now apparently some of these unconstitutional bills are actually starting to pass.

Hmmm. May be time to buy a few more mini-30s, and another 10/22 for my son, while I still can.

Automatic weapons are not banned.They are not all that hard to purchase if you can afford them and pay a $200 transfer fee.

I've been considering an M-2, but 12 grand for the gun and 1,000 rounds of ammo is a bit steep.

Automatic weapons are not banned.They are not all that hard to purchase if you can afford them and pay a $200 transfer fee.

I've been considering an M-2, but 12 grand for the gun and 1,000 rounds of ammo is a bit steep.

Was holding a real pretty one, today, for only 6 grand

The 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution forbids any State from nullifying the Federal Bill of Rights, this [the 14th Amendment] was also ratified with the Consent of 3/4 of the States including California itself.

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

The Federal Government is obliged to rescue oppressed citizens under Article IV, Section 4:
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

SO if California goes to confiscate guns, the the citizens fire back, the United States must rescue the citizens of California from domestic violence from their own State government, via Congress calling forth the Militia as prescribed in Article I.

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.
