A 91-year-old California woman, who was allegedly armed with a shotgun when she was shot by deputies outside her home in Spring Valley Lake on Saturday, died from her injuries Monday, authorities said.

They were met by Francois. She came out the front door of the home armed with a shotgun, officials said.

"Deputies gave her commands to drop the gun, then she pointed the gun at the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred," according to the release.

There's a definite problem being a good-guy-with-a-gun. When police are responding to a call, they have no way to know if the guy-with-a-gun facing them is good or bad.

So, good guys, when the fuzz orders you to drop your weapon, don't point it at them, just drop the d@mn thing and put your hands on the top of your head.

It's a shame this happened, but we don't know much about the story yet: how close the police were to her, what she said if she said anything, if police were close enough to their cars to retreat and shield themselves from possible gunfire, if she was legally blind, how did she know somebody was out there, did the police have body cameras on, we just don't know.

Being legally blind does not mean a person lives in total darkness. They could still have some vision, just very obstructed but still able to see shadows, movement, and recognize some objects.
