God doesn't "have" to do anything.
Perhaps he tested Abraham's faith to be written in the Bible for us, so that we could see what obedience to God was. Or, perhaps a foreshadowing of the sacrifice God would make for US so that we could be in eternal relationship with Him. God actually DID make the sacrifice however, and, yet, we continually mock and spit on that sacrifice.....

God's purpose is not to make our lives easier. Only to save us from eternal damnation.
