For a country that is supposedly the freest in the world we sure spend a lot of time imposing restrictions on our populace that most other places don't. How about the government just butt out, no pun intended. An 18 year old is a legal adult. He can go off to war and kill somebody for some politician's ambition, so certainly he can choose for himself whether or not to smoke a cigarette.

This doesn't mean for pot. Minors should be allowed to smoke pot. It makes them smarter.

"He can go off to war and kill somebody ... so certainly he can choose " to kill himself.

Why would anyone but the purveyor of a deadly drug or an addict support the growing of this deadly substance? We put crack and meth cookers and sellers in jail, why not those who grow and sell tobacco?

Very odd that some would fight for the right to harm our children. Would these same people buy cigarettes for children who would not be old enough to buy for themselves?

Once you hit 18 you are not a child. Why does the left keep trying to infantalize our youth?

If 18 yr olds aren't responsible enough to use tobacco products or alcohol, how are they responsible enough to vote?

It's stupid. When I was a kid, I routinely saw underage kids smoking. Raising the age limit isn't going to stop underage smoking anymore than it stops underage drinking.

They lowered the voting age when it was made apparent that an 18 year old could get drafted and die in battle in Vietnam but had no right to vote. They tried to lower the drinking age at the same time but that failed. They do have the right to drink on base though.

Because it's not remotely the same thing, but you already knew that.

The drinking age was not 21 when they lowered the voting age. It may have been in some states, but many were still 18. It wasn't until the Reagan Administration that they forced the states, allied by a corrupt SCOTUS, through blackmailing of their highway funds to raise the drinking age to 21 across the board.
