Dennis Hastert in 2001: sworn-in as Speaker of the HOR, to defend the US Constitution. Uhuh.
Patriot Act That Dennis Hastert Passed Led To His Indictment
On Oct. 24, 2001, then-House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) shepherded the Patriot Act through the House of Representatives. It passed 357 to 66, advancing to the Senate and then-President George W. Bush’s desk for signing.
Hastert took credit for House passage in a 2011 interview, claiming it “wasn’t popular, and there was a lot of fight in the Congress” over it.
Little did Hastert know at the time that the law he helped pass would give federal law enforcement the tools to indict him on charges of violating banking-related reporting requirements more than a decade later.
The Department of Justice on Thursday announced Hastert's indictment for agreeing to pay $3.5 million in hush money to keep someone quiet about his “prior misconduct.” The indictment accuses Hastert of structuring bank withdrawals to avoid bank reporting requirements, and lying to the FBI about the nature of the withdrawals. It does not reveal the “misconduct” that Hastert was trying to conceal. The recipient of the money was a resident of Yorkville, Illinois, where Hastert taught high school and coached wrestling from 1965 to 1981.
The indictment suggests that law enforcement officials relied on the Patriot Act’s expansion of bank reporting requirements to snare Hastert.
Ahhh, irony.
And so, we see yet another Republican embroiled in something illegal.
Yesiree, the GOP: party of high ethics, morals and family values.
Discuss: what do you think will happen to Hastert?
What do you want to discuss? another politician in trouble,or the one sided blinders you wear with pride.now go and make a list of all the Dems that have found themselves in hot water, but a simpleton party hack like yourself, would never ever do something as honest as that.
On Friday, federal law enforcement officials said Hastert had paid $1.7 million over the last four years to conceal sexual abuse against a former male student he knew during his days as a teacher in Yorkville, Ill., where Hastert worked until 1981.
A top federal law enforcement official, who would not be identified speaking about the ongoing federal case, said investigators also spoke with a second man who raised similar allegations that corroborated what the former student said. The second person was not being paid by Hastert, the official said.
The disclosures followed Thursday's federal indictment against Hastert on charges of lying to the FBI about the reasons for large cash withdrawals he is accused of making to buy the man's silence.
“It goes back a long way, back to then,” a second official said. “It has nothing to do with public corruption or a corruption scandal. Or to his time in office.”
Thursday's indictment described misconduct against a person identified only as “Individual A,” noting that Hastert had known the person “most of Individual A's life.”
When asked about the nature of the alleged misconduct, the second official said, “It was sex.”

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert accused of hiding sex abuse of former student - LA Times

What is not stated is whether the abuse was consensual or not. The inference is that it was not, but wait and see. Since Hastert was the wrestling coach of that HS wrestling team, I suppose he had a number of young, healthy, muscular boys to pick from in order to abuse at least one of them. The article states that a SECOND person has also come forward with similar allegations. This also explains why Hastert dragged his feet on the Michael Foley (R-FL) sexual scandal with male House Pages in 2006.
So, it's obvious that he paid hush-money to that former student to keep him from going public.
After all of the disgusting GOP scandals and indictments, I never ever again want to hear how Republicans take the high moral road, that they are the party of "Family Values". Or is fucking high school boys somehow a family value these days?
This man was SPEAKER OF THE UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, fer Chrissakes.
Discuss: what will happen to Dennis Hastert next? Oh, and deflection/relativism will get you nowhere. If you can find a Democrat who diddled a High School student, feel free to start your own thread.![]()

The "Bank Secrecy Act of 1970" (BSA) is the law that ensnared him. Specifically a provision that was enacted in 1992 (the Annunzio-Wylie Anti-Money Laundering Act) that requires banks to report "suspicious" acts to FinCen. The bank reported Hastert to the FBI after he made a great number of withdrawals slightly below the $10K reporting limit. Then he lied to the FBI about what he was doing with the money. End of story.
The "patriot Act" angle may get tongues wagging and sell lots of newspapers along the way, but it baseless hyperbole.

Repubs have a perfect circle of denial
Republicans are getting indicted because they are innocent. The charges are because the dem DOJ is criminal but has proof against Repubs
The Obama admin is criminal because they do not have charges brought. They dont have charges because the DOJ is criminal and does not have proof
Therefore:
The DOJ is criminal because Obama is criminal.
Proof: None
That is likely because there really was no point of the OP other than to revel in their partisan blinders. Hell the article even mentioned that a democrat was already caught by the new law though it does not mention if they also voted for the PA.I'm Happy Joy, but I think you still missed the point of the OP.
It makes one point - that it is ironic - and asks one question which I answered in the above post. Other than that there is not much of a 'point' to the OP of this thread.
Just heard on TV that it involves a relationship with a man. There will be no prosecution for that because of the statute of limitations. Hastert still faces lying to the FBI.
He allegedly molested a boy he coached on the wrestling team. I know you're happier than a pig in shit, but lets remember he's innocent until otherwise proven not so.
Throbbing member of congress?I read the article, it's pathetically stupid and only has secondhand innuendo, I can see why you ran with it.
All your post needed was a "'throbbing member" to make me throw-up!
I do generally like a good story, keep trying.
Well, your outrage was fun....![]()
