People don't immigrate to the USA to become American, anymore -- They do it to get free shit and access to luxuries. My great grandfather on my dad's side came here from Greece. My father tells me he was obsessed about becoming American. Becoming American was his reason for moving here.

Now they come here to be oppressed.... Oppressed by free shit handed out by the government.

The article below is about a subgroup of Muslims in Australia who do not want their children to be forced to say the Australian Pledge of Allegiance or sing the Australian national anthem.

Muslims whine that singing the national anthem is “forced assimilation” and it offends them

it depends on your definitions of "affection" and "assimilation"

requiring them to say the pledge of allegiance is fine.

demanding that they change their religion is not.
We are the only country on the planet that has a pledge of allegiance.

Wrong

That’s not what google says-

According to question and answer site, Quora, (a site where questions are asked, answered, edited, and organized by its community of users) only a handful of countries mimic the United States' pledge of allegiance tradition:

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Cultural assimilation to the generationally established prevailing culture(s) of a nation is key to the social and societal stability of whatever nation. A fast example: in America we do not force women to cover themselves in anything but fashionable (or not) clothing, while traveling or working or whatever in public. Thus, when an immigrant arrives from a nation where such is the norm, he or she must adapt to our socially accepted cultural norms, unless adhering to the old ways is strictly voluntary. Also, in America we do not encourage or permit the raping of women in public, stoning them to death for any offense or allowing adult men to marry prepubescent girls. Sometimes; frankly, more often than not, forced cultural assimilation is absolutely necessary for everyone's benefit.

Thanks! That's what I get for believing another poster here. I heard it during the furor over kneeling for the anthem.

India, Australia, China, Singapore and the Philippines seem to have their kids recite it at school and everyone chant it at patriotic events.
The rest of the countries on Jim and Bucktooth's lists just have oaths of office, basically, for politicians and the military, etc.

Good to know; thanks again.

Yes, of course, and in the same way, and to the same extent, a nation has the right to demand affection from "government invariably is the problem" dimwits and assimilation from "molon labe" mouth breathers.
