Economic Good News.....288,000 jobs added in April

288,000 jobs? That's pathetic. It's pathetic that people think that a number that low is good simply because its higher that the previous numbers.

So Obama is failing at a slightly slower rate than before. Whoop-de-doo! He's still a pathetic failure.

We have not had many months much higher in the last ten years

Proof that the economy can heal itself in spite of the morons in the White House and Congress.

Do people honestly think Obama had anything to do with this. His unemployment record makes him the worst president in history....hands down.

Economy adds 288,000 jobs; jobless rate, 6.3%

Employers added 288,000 jobs in April as milder weather continued to lift the labor market from a winter slump.

The unemployment rate fell to 6.3% from 6.7% -- the biggest drop since September 2008, the Labor Department said Friday.

Many economists expect the economy and job market to accelerate this year because of higher household wealth and reduced debt, as well as more modest federal government spending cuts

More great news...... If you're a Democrat....

Jobs Report: Unemployment Down, But 800,000 Leave Workforce

It's widely accepted that to keep pace and stay even 200,000 jobs need to be created every month.
So we really only have 88,000 jobs created.
That coupled with so many people leaving the workforce and GDP growing at just .1% for the first quarter.

What exactly is the celebration about?

Your article demonstrates the need to use caution in getting to jacked up over a single month. Statistics can give some misleading information.

Don't get me wrong. I hope it was even higher in reality.

But I seriously doubt anything Obama or Congress did helped in any way.

This is the U.S.A. We survived Carter. We survived Bush (well, maybe). Hopefully we'll survive the current class clown.

The average number of monthly nonfarm payroll jobs since 1980 has been 118,000.

The average number of monthly nonfarm payroll jobs since Obama was sworn in as President is 68,000.

The average number of monthly nonfarm payroll jobs under Bush was 13,000.

We have not had many months much higher in the last ten years

There have been 159 months since President Bush was sworn in. There have only been 10 months that have registered more than 288,000 jobs in a month, and three of those have been under President Obama.

Of all the Presidents since WWII, unemployment has averaged higher under Obama than any other President at 8.5%.

The second highest?

Just wait until Obama's tax hikes kick in...including the albatross called ObamaCare.

Let's just see what the numbers are then?

Take a good look at that chart, rubes.

Notice when the labor force participation started dropping?

How come you did not wake out of your fucking comas until January 20, 2009? How come you did not harp and harp and harp and harp about it whenever good employment news came out during 2001-2009?

Huh?

I'll tell you why. Because you are the biggest pack of partisan willful creduloids to come down the pike in centuries.

I yelled and screamed directly in Ken Mehlman's face about this, so you're wrong. The only reason I wasn't much anti-Bush is because Gore and Kerry were that much worse.

How many of you rightwingers realize that if you're going to hold presidents responsible for the job situation,

while you're trying to blame Obama for whatever you think is wrong with the job situation now,

you are by your own argument making the case for electing Hillary Clinton in 2016,

because Hillary is the closest thing to a replacement for Bill Clinton, and President Clinton had the best job situation in recent memory.

Fair enough?

How can you compare a president's job creation success or failure rate to another president's success or failure rate when there is 20 years of financial oscillation between them? Policies and money trends and foreign / domestic mutation have all been flipped over and over since the Clinton years. You can't tell me that one Clinton in office will be able to duplicate another Clinton's success...That's just silly.

What is at the real center of contention about this story is not how many jobs were created... but A) what kind of jobs are they? Good, HIGH paying jobs? Or a bunch of jobs created by the start of baseball season and hundreds of jobs in ballparks created all over the country that are part time, short term jobs at 8 bucks an hour? And then B) do those 288,000 jobs balance out the number of people that have dropped out of the workforce?

If you can still feel good about your job numbers after considering these points...you might have something to cheer about. Maybe.

288,000 people got employment.

Why wouldn't you be happy? I thought jobs were important

The unemployment numbers mean nothing Leftyloon. The only number that matters is the people in the workforce.. That number is down.

Looks like you are going to be disappointed for the next two decades as baby boomers abandon the workforce

Odd, how up till now, it was jobs that mattered

Retiring is not abandonment. And those aren't part of the number anyway.

Labor Force Characteristics (CPS)

Not in the labor force

Persons who are neither employed nor unemployed are not in the labor force. This category includes retired persons, students, those taking care of children or other family members, and others who are neither working nor seeking work. Information is collected on their desire for and availability for work, job search activity in the prior year, and reasons for not currently searching.

Speaking of low information. The topic is not about the definition. It is about how the bullshit numbers are being spun.
