Emails Reveal President Obama Shut Down WW2 Memorial Knowing Vets Were Coming!

Let me explain how it works

During a sequester Congress tells an agency ...cut your budget 10%
Given that many expenditures are already committed, they slash payroll. Decisions are based on cost

The parks were closed during the Republican shutdown. This means that agencies are not authorized to expend funds. But in shutting down government, even Congress understands you can't allow people to die or assets remain unprotected. So congress allows essential functions to remain open during a shutdown

Now, guess whether parks are considered essential or nonessential functions?

The government shut down was NOT the sequester, Winger. You need to keep your talking points straight! Congress did not tell the Obama White House what to shut down and what to keep open...those were choices made BY THE OBAMA WHITE HOUSE and it's very instructive if you look at what they chose and how quickly it happened. This was something they had obviously planned. Someone in this White House sat down and drew up lists of things they thought would irritate the average American citizen if it was no longer available and then they shut THOSE things down.

Yes!

Now you are learning.

That is the difference that Conservatives can't seem to grasp. During a sequester, an agency is told "slash 10%" and they cut spending where it makes the most sense

During a shutdown an agencey is told they are not authorized to expend funds. However, they are authorized to expend funds for "essential" functions. So cost savings does not come into play, only essential or non-essential

Now that you are getting it. Can you explain how a PARK should be considered essential?

What was the objective of a 10% savings? Where were the savings supposed to be applied?

When you're in the middle of your vacation camping trip at a National Park and a Park Ranger drives up and tells you to pack up and leave because the park is closed? THAT would fit the very definition of "painful".
I saw that during National Lampoons Vacation. If you are a Griswald, it is very painful. You may even take a bb gun and force your way in

But most people just bitch about how inept Republicans in Congress are and come back in a couple of weeks

What IS painful about a Republican shutdown is sending employees home who are involved in cancer research, defense, veterans services and hundreds of other government functions.

Most people that plan camping trips like that do so on their once or maybe (if they're lucky) twice a year vacation. In a "couple of weeks" they would be back at their jobs again bemoaning the fact that their vacation was ruined by a bunch of vindictive ass holes in Washington DC who cared more about politics than they did about citizens.

Yup...Thats what happens during a Republican shutdown. Some people have to make sacrifices. But Republicans like to pretend that Government doesn't matter....I mean who would really care if we didn't have Government?

Seems the parks are extremely important to many communities:

"Information about the shutdown's effect on national parks came as Interior released a report indicating that national parks generated $26.8 billion in economic activity in 2012 and supported 243,000 jobs."

Shutdown Cost National Parks at Least $414M - ABC News

How much did Obama save by closing the parks?

.

Nothing. All the furloughs, closed park etc only resorted in cost savings related to the infrastructure supporting the groups impacted. The labor savings were not realized or returned- so the intended 'savings' is a red herring

Who said saving money was a goal of a republican Shutdown? It is about being authorized to expend appropriated funds.

You are only authorized to expend funds for essential functions regardless of the cost

Guess what? Parks are non-essential

FACE IT FOLKS, this shutdown was planned by Obama and Democrats for one thing and one thing only

Dirty games of politics by trying to LAY blame Republicans.....they have since DELAYED everything the Republicans were asking for in ObamaScamCare....,... so they went after what would hurt YOU THE people and your communities the MOST...

Now lets hurt that party come elections and lets hurt them HARD

vote them out

When did Obama give his power to the republicans? Whatever shut down it was because that is what the king wanted. Hurt the people for political gain that is the history of the democrat party since the age of slavery.

Actually, the Government shut down because Congress failed to pass a Continuing Resolution. Normally, this means keep working for 90 days under existing funding levels while we work this out

But Republicans saw it as an opportunity for extortion. Defund Obamacare or the Government shuts down.

Yep.

And every time the President delays part of the law, he is admitting that it would have been a good idea to sit with the republicans and come to a deal that meets much of what they wanted while keeping the ACA funded, but many parts delayed for fine tuning.

But instead?

He looked at how he can gain politically by the GOP action.

He never ONCE looked at the fact that many of their concerns of the law were coming to fruition.

That's not leadership. That is party warfare. Unbecoming of a President.

Can you explain how only spending money on "essential" services resulted in spending $24 billion more than if government hadn't shut down?

Government not confiscating money from producers and spending it "harms" the economy. Got it. Amazing how liberal lawyers know so much more about economics than economists do.

That is not what actually happened

Republicans wanted to defund ALL of Obamacare in an attempt at extortion
When that failed, their backup plan was to delay the Healthcare Exchanges for one year
When that failed Boehner started to cry and asked if there was ANYTHING he could get for the Republican Shutdown

They ended up with nothing...

243,000 jobs are non-essential...really. Were park closures mandatory or did Obama decide that parks should be closed. Given this president's obvious concern for jobs, it seems to be a strange decision.

Prior to a Republican shutdown, agencies have to determine what is essential and what is not essential. Any employee in a non-essential position gets sent home
When Congress first started this nonsense, essential employees were those who sending them home could jeopardize life or property. They eased up to expand the definition of essential employees somewhat

But in no way is a Park close to being essential

And yet the economy grew during that time.

Basically, the theorists say that the economy lost 32 billion. Reality disagreed. We should probably believe reality….

The economy grew by $24 billion less than it would have without the shutdown. That's the entire point of the article.

Obama is not President any more according to RW the republicans are in charge. How that happened is anyone's guess. Obama and the democrats fail to negotiate and shut down the government hurting the little people and all RW can do is reinvent history.
