EPA Wants Gov't To Control How Cold Your Beer Can Be

I have very little doubt that internet connected smart appliances and the smart grid will control our energy use in EVERY sense.

If you find this "progress" unappealing then find a way to generate your OWN electricity and get off that grid.

Little by little we are handing over control of our lives to government.
And this makes Libs happy.

If you had read the full article you would have seen the reference to the EPA Energy Star Program. in any case, you can go to www.EPA.gov/Energy Star Program. It's free, that should turn you on.

A voluntary program where you can save money by keeping your high energy appliances on a power control during peak hours. I have it on my central air conditioner.

Having your utilities controlled over the Internet is almost the dumbest idea I've ever heard of.

Imagine it 30 below out, wind blowing at 40 mph and some hacker decides its time to make trouble?

But that's stupid, the interweb is completely secure right?

Regulation: No longer the stuff of science fiction, a little-noticed change in energy-efficiency requirements for appliances could lead to government controlling the power used in your home and how you set your thermostat. In a seemingly innocuous revision of its Energy Star efficiency requirements announced June 27, the Environmental Protection Agency included an "optional" requirement for a "smart-grid" connection for customers to electronically connect their refrigerators or freezers with a utility provider. The feature lets the utility provider regulate the appliances' power consumption, "including curtailing operations during more expensive peak-demand times." So far, manufacturers are not required to include the...

Will Obama's EPA take that one fatal step? Taking a man's cold beer is going too far.

What ignorant fear mongering right wing garbage.

Our grid is ALREADY being controlled manually (by evil human beings). A smart grid would allow the grid to make instantaneous responses to supply and demand.

When demand hits a peak, for example, the grid might start cutting power for household refrigerators, office air-conditioning systems and other non-urgent uses — just for a moment in each case, and nothing that anyone would notice, but enough to smooth out variations in the overall load.

Or simply improve the grid and quit the fear mongering by the left about power plants?

why do we have to be so 'energy efficient' to the point the government is controlling our thermostats.....? and doubling our energy bills....?

just exactly why is it we can't have lots of CHEAP AVAILABLE ENERGY......?

The hay-day of capitalism occurred when our domestic environment yielded a seemingly infinite amount of low hanging fruit in the form of cheap energy, abundant land and a seemingly infinite amount of raw materials and natural resources.

Problem is, once you run out of oil in places like Texas, you have to pay a massive cost to extract it militarily from places like the Middle East. The same thing is true for any raw material or natural resource that was once available domestically in large quantities, but now requires massive sums to extract in places like Africa.

However, in addition to having to pay massive costs for foreign resources - which can get pricey when you have to stabilize resource-rich third world nations - there's another thing that drives up the cost of the resources upon which our economy depends. It's called the law of supply and demand. For example, the more energy that we demand, the higher the cost goes. So if your economy is profligate in relationship to energy, that is, if you build Hummers while the rest of the world is building gas efficient vehicles, and if you build a suburban sprawl, which uses more energy per unit than any other living arrangement, then your energy costs will actually stunt economic growth.

Ask a Republican how much the Los Angeles economy depends on cheap gas prices, and they will give you a blank stare.

This explains everything. They don't understand the relationship between profligate, inefficient energy use ... Which leads to high energy demand ... which leads to higher prices for energy and everything else that depends on energy for transportation and production, the multiplier effect of which is beyond belief.

that explains nothing...

we could have another heyday of capitalism.....but your 'dear leader' doesn't want that....

most believe in efficient use of energy...and in promoting new forms of alternative energy such as solar power......but we also believe our energy should be reasonably CHEAP....and we certainly don't need Big Brother monitoring our usage.....

we have PLENTY of supply.....

the USA is swimming in OIL.....we are the new Saudi Arabia....but permits are scarce...

the USA has tons of natural GAS.....cheaper than oil right now but BO is targeting it as well...

USA is up to its neck in COAL.....yet our prez is shutting it down despite the new efficiencies...

we are paying for energy through the nose......WHY?.....all because of assinine political objectives....

Blame Nixon for the EPA.

Yep...
Look, the EPA has done many good things.
The problem with that agency is our current president has turned the EPA loose. There is no congressional oversight any longer.
The people of the EPA are accountable to no one. They operate in secret. They are tuned in directly to Obama's anti fossil fuel agenda.
The EPA is an out of control rogue department.

You FIRST..This is YOUR agenda. You dive into the pool first and let us know whether their is water present.
This is the problem with you libs. You vomit up these ideas. They make you giggle with glee as if to exclaim "Gee, look at what I came up with!!!"...Then with no thought of the cost and hardship your so called solutions create, you with your nanny state "I know what's best for you" arrogance, ram this shit down everyone's throats.
Tell ya what...Experiment on your own families and yourself. Then come back and tell us how it all worked out for you.
Back in 2002 we had a severe ice strorm here. Over one million electricty customers lost power. Some for three weeks. A spokesman for one of the power compnaies made a similar statement as you. He suggested if we didn't like it, we could buy generators or figure out another way to acquire electrical service.
The public outrage resulted in the spokesman's dismissal from the company.
In other words he said "screw you"..And the public said..."NO....screw YOU!".

"evil human beings"?....
Oh you're one of these tree hugging animal rights wackos who would be trundling down the road in their Smart Car. And in the process of blocking traffic for half a mile because you insist on driving 20mph below the limit, see a housecat, swerve and cause a 40 car collision.
Yeah, save the life of the stray but FUCK all those 'evil human beings'...
DOUCHE.

Blame Nixon for the EPA.

We do.

RINOs are to blame for "compromising" with a lot of insipid leftist assholes and enacting laws that have destroyed the republic.

Bed wetters like you decry our unwillingness to relinquish our freedom for bullshit causes.

You call us "tea baggers, racists, bigots, homophobes and even Nazis", though history shows you moonbats are everything you're programmed to hate.

And you whiny squealy assholes would have our air and water quality worse than it was in the 70's if you had your way. You're too dumb to understand that most of these regulations actually benefit society as a whole, and that includes you despite your lack of any wisdom whatsoever.

Ahh yes. The desperation comes out and we get the 'you people want to make the planet filthy' straw man argument.
Stow it, sunshine. Nobody is listening.
