In response to accusations that he is to blame for stalling the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) continued his efforts on Wednesday to soften his and the Republican party's reputation with women.

"You know, I as a gentleman care very deeply about women in the abuse situation, that we need to get them the relief that this bill offers," Cantor said on the House floor in response to a question from Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) about the status of VAWA. "That's what we want to do, that's our priority, we must move and act on this bill."

The Senate is scheduled to vote on its version of VAWA on Tuesday, which includes protections for LGBT victims of domestic violence as well as Native American victims of violence by white men on tribal lands. The House has stayed mum on what it plans to do to move the bill forward, but the tribal provision appears to be the biggest sticking point for House Republicans.

Social issues

Cantor opposes public funding of embryonic stem cell research and opposes elective abortion. He is rated 100% by the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) and 0% by NARAL Pro-Choice America, indicating a pro-life voting record. He is also opposed to same-sex marriage, voting to Constitutionally define marriage as between a male and a female in 2006. In November 2007 he voted against prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation. He also supports making flag burning illegal. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) rated him 19% in 2006, indicating an anti-affirmative action voting record. He is opposed to gun control, voting to ban product misuse lawsuits on gun manufacturers in 2005, and he voted not to require gun registration and trigger-lock laws in the District of Columbia. He has a rating of "A" from the National Rifle Association (NRA).[25] On Nov. 2, 2010, Cantor told Wolf Blitzer of CNN that he would try to trim the federal deficit by reducing welfare.

You can include gay men and women in the protections from domestic abuse, just don't call them marriages!:flameth:

He's from the state that brought us the "wand of shame" for women wanting abortions. Interestingly, they backpedaled on that.

Cantor is simply trying to put a soft spin on the GOP war on women. I suspect most women see through it...

Still defending Clinton?

Note to Self: Still haven't figured out why people pretend to be Conservative or Republicans and never find a single good thing to say about either but never stop loving Democrats; could be dietary
