Had the Benghazi attack not occurred at this unique moment – on a day when the Republican candidate for the presidency and his promoters in the conservative media were desperate for a new storyline, especially one that would undercut the popular effect of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden the year before – this tragedy might not have been converted into a political scandal. After all, Benghazi was just one of at least 157 attacks on our diplomatic facilities over a 15-year period, 9 of which resulted in U.S. fatalities......

To create a political hoax using a terrorist assault that killed Americans is, of course, unconscionable, but it has also served as a harmful national distraction. What should have been a tightly focused investigation into the protection of U.S. diplomatic posts and our policy in Libya has been hijacked by unfounded and sometimes wild conspiracy theories that have diverted attention from real issues that affect American voters. Over months, manufactured right-wing narratives bled slowly into news coverage from mainstream journalists eager to show their “balanced” approach – thus misleading citizens who pay only casual attention to political developments.

The decisions that launched the Benghazi hoax and caused it to eventually metastasize took place before the night of September 11 was even over.

According to Michael Bay and producer Erwin Stoff, it was their intent in making 13 Hoursto eschew partisan politics as best they could and concentrate almost solely on the heroism of the security personnel who came to the defense of the diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya when it came under attack on September 11th, 2012. The book the movie was based on allegedly managed to walk that fine line at least somewhat — it was also, from what I’ve heard, a riveting read — but the fact is that separating Benghazi from partisan politics is next to impossible. The very existence of 13 Hours is the result of Fox News’s relentless, ongoing advancement of the event as a scandal rather than simply a tragedy and Republican lawmakers’ subsequent obsession with linking it to Hillary Clinton. If the right hadn’t worked itself into a frothing frenzy over Benghazi, there would’ve been no reason to make the movie — since there probably wouldn’t be a guaranteed audience for it.
But that audience, conservatives who believe Hillary Clinton left American heroes to fend for themselves against the savage hordes, are exactly who this movie is aimed at. There’s of course a general conservative demographic that will respond feverishly to any movie that portrays U.S. soldiers as unequivocally heroic — and not only does Paramount Pictures know this, it’s following a pattern for these kinds of movies that’s been hugely successful in the past. Both 2013’s Lone Survivor and 2014’s American Sniper — good movies, no doubt — were released during the Christmas season and racked up huge January numbers from largely conservative audiences, Sniper benefitting not just from being about a decorated member of the military but also from the fact that that military member was heavily criticized as being a racist sociopath by the left. Nothing gets Fox News viewers to take a particular cultural stand en masse like knowing that it’ll infuriate the libtards. This is precisely why 13 Hours was always a sure bet to be massive — because it’s about “American heroes” and it’s allegedly a thumb in the eye of the right’s political enemies.

"Now an email hidden from public view for three years reveals another rescue attempt was apparently interrupted. The military offered to deploy Special Forces to Benghazi during the assault, long before the attackers killed CIA contractors and former Navy Seals Glen Doherty and Ty Woods.

Three and a half hours into the eight-hour long siege, the military's Chief of Staff Jeremy Bash emails top State Department officials: "we have identified the forces that could move to Benghazi. They are spinning up as we speak. They include a SOF [Special Operations Forces] element that was in Croatia."

Retired Army Green Beret Col. Andrew Wood commanded a Special Forces anti-terrorism team protecting Ambassador Chris Stevens and other diplomats in Libya. In 2012, Wood told Congress his team was removed from Libya by the Obama administration a month before the attacks, despite warnings of terrorist violence to come.

For the first time, Wood is speaking out with a startling claim: that those Special Forces offered in the military email were on their way to Benghazi, but were turned back.

Wood: Those individuals I know loaded aircraft and got on their way to Benghazi to respond to that incident. They were not allowed to cross the border, as per protocol, until they get approval from the Commander-in-Chief. That authority has got to come from him. Otherwise, they're not allowed to go further into the country. I have a high degree of confidence that that happened, based on information that I've heard from individuals that were there. Those forces were put into motion. They simply were not allowed to go further.

The White House has refused to detail the involvement of President Obama, the Commander-in-Chief, while Americans were under attack on foreign soil. Following a short briefing at the beginning of the assault, he virtually disappears from the public narrative.

The White House declined to comment for this report but has long denied any assets were available or ready, and said everything possible was done.

Yet the email indicates Special Forces were ready and high-ranking Obama administration officials, or "Principals" were to weigh in. "Assuming Principals agree to deploy these elements, we will ask State to secure the approval from host nation," the military emails the State Department. "Please advise how you wish to convey that approval to us."

Inexplicably, nobody did seek Libya's approval for the U.S. forces to fly in to help."

That email has been in the hands of the Benghazi Investigative committees for over a year and a half now, they even interviewed the guy who sent it and the guy who received it, and they have addressed it, and determined that this help, could not have helped those in Benghazi....the Africom team was 3 hours away, and they were not ready at the time of the memo (6hours difference in time zone with Benghazi), they were gearing up....this team did proceed to Tripoli to protect from any aftermath that could possibly occur.

Second, as secretary of state, Hillary's job,(if the president with his Defense advisers felt it would help to send them), was to get permission from the Leaders of the countries that our forces would be traveling through their air space.... And this memo, simply stated such....and asked how would they be notified that the air space was cleared.
