Explaining Socialism to a Republican

why does the right complain about high tax rates?

If the wealthy get their way of reducing the top tax rate to say 25%, with existing deductions would reduce the effective (actual) rate to at close or zero leaving the entire tax burden to the middle class and poor. Wealthy people believe that they shouldn't pay taxes because they're wealthy and spend hundreds of millions per year getting Republicans, Libertarians, and Teabaggers elected to accomplish this.

Beware of any right wing hack who begins his/her post with "FACT".....

Actually, CitiGroup pre-tax income was about $14B and paid a tax rate of 16%; At & T earned about $19B and paid a rate of 6.4%; and GE earned about $16B and paid a tax rate of 7.4%.....

My wife and I, on the other hand, paid a tax rate of 25 or 26%.....

What was your effective rate? total taxes paid ÷ total income

I just happened to have my 2014 1040 on the table next to me, and came up with 18%.

Does it mean I'm eligible for a Tesla? Or two? :dunno:

When you have the actual numbers we can talk.

Can you afford a Tesla? You can buy one for the same price as a F-350 Premium.

Only 18%??? I may need a new CPA

(P.S. congrats, you paid almost 3 times as much the rate as AT&T)

Yeah ya can... but you can only drive it for roughly 1/3rd of a Ford's tank, before ya get to take a 12 hour hiatus... . And the kids will have to ride inside and that's a deal breaker right there.

My guess is that his capital investments, acquisitions and other deferring considerations fall fairly well short of AT&T.

The good news is that they both pay the same federal corporate rate, which is the highest in the free world.

I've had years so successful that I could have purchased a garage full. Like when oil was $140/barrel and gasoline was near $5/gallon. But I chose to see my children through college and bank the rest for days like today.

As for "actual numbers" - why should that be any fucking business of yours? :dunno:

After all, you asked for a quotient and I gave it. :slap:

Some day, when you reach maturity, you too will learn that there is a difference between what a statute states on what the tax rate should be for conglomerates, AND what they actually pay because of loop holes.....

(Heck, I would guess that the high tax rate stated in the statute was actually welcomed....or even written....by these conglomerates.....Just so they could bullshit right wingers who feel "sorry" about that high tax rate which virtually NO conglomerate ever pays.)

just a rehash of the same shit rush Limbaugh glen beck etc. spew....

dear, conservatism started with Aristotle Jesus Locke Jefferson and Friedman. As a total liberal illiterate you would have no idea.
irrelevant

too stupid as a totally illiterate liberal you said same rehash of Limbaugh having no idea that Aristotle invented conservatism.

See why we liberalism is based in pure ignorance. See why you spend your time dodging questions rather than answering
true he did ,you on the other hand misunderstand it.

translation: as a typical liberal I lack the IQ to respond substantively
nothing to respond to

translation: as a typical liberal im too stupid to say how capitalism encourages greed.
odd? weren't you just yammering about how capitalism PREVENTS GREED?

dear, do you feel capitalism prevents greed? Why?

IN YOUR OWN WORDS :"
dear, you said it was nonsensical to say that capitalism prevents greed and encourages the fastest economic growth possible. Can you say why its nonsensical or must you admit as a typical liberal you lack the IQ to defend your statement."EB

"capitalism prevents greed"

You haven't given one specific example of how you are poorer because somebody else is richer, even though I have asked a half dozen times.

You have nothing. Typical for a Moon Bat.

I have also asked. The result?

*** cricketes ***

He won't explain it because deep down he knows it's true. However, he also just "knows" that he's entitled to some of the money that rich guy earned.
false there is nothing to explain..
your confusion is not my problem...

Translation: you refuse to answer any questions put to you because you know you'll answers will make it obvious that you're a fool.
false! you wanting me to appear foolish does not make me a fool, on the other hand ....

Then why can't you answer a couple of simple questions?
I already did no need to repeat my self..

I don't recall seeing any such explanation.

You're running away. Just admit it.

Well, Hon, careful in exposing your stupidity by citing names that you know virtually nothing about and certainly have not read what they've written....

For example, Aristotle in both his Ethics and in his Politics, first NEVER defined freedom....only to mention that it is a cornerstone of any democracy.

Regarding Aristotle "conservatism", obviously you again know nothing but what you may have read in a Chinese fortune cookie....

Like Aristotle, conservatives generally accept the world as it is; they distrust the politics of abstract reason – that is, reason divorced from experience.

~ Benjamin Wiker

Dr. Benjamin Wiker, in his new opus, “10 Books every Conservative Must Read,” refers to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle as the father of political conservatism. Citing Aristotle’s work “Politics,” Wiker lists two primary reasons: First, Aristotle understood that the essential political argument happens between those who recognize that political life and morality are natural (from God) as opposed to those who believe that political life and morality are entirely manmade, like the Sophists and Epicureans of Aristotle’s day.

Secondly, conservatives, like Aristotle, lean toward political suspicion, since they believe mankind is not infinitely malleable, and they understand that morality is objective and places restrictions on what human beings can and should do in a civilized society.

From the beginning of “Politics,” Aristotle draws a distinction between his ideas and that of the Sophists – the liberals and moral relativists of his times – regarding the natural foundation of political life and society, claiming it lies in the natural union of husband and wife, the family. Aristotle thought that humans are social and political by nature; therefore politics should not be about acquisition of power but about “acting out and perfecting our human nature insofar as that is possible.”
