The indictment clearly says that the FBI asked for travel records in 2020 to corroborate his claims.

From the indictment it looks like the FBI and Congress were suckered by a foreign national for whom the “truth” only has a dollar value attached.​

The indictment paints a pretty clear picture of a well-compensated CHS spinning a tall tale about $10 million in bribes paid to Joe and Hunter. ​

I’d be curious to know how much the FBI’d paid him after he told that tale. ​

WASHINGTON ― A central piece of evidence in the impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden may have just evaporated.

The Justice Department on Thursday announced that an FBI informant was lying when he said a Ukrainian oligarch told him he’d bribed Biden.

Special counsel David Weiss, the U.S. attorney prosecuting the president’s son Hunter Biden on gun purchase and tax delinquency crimes, announced that FBI informant Alexander Smirnov has been charged with making a false statement and creating a false record related to the bribery allegation.

Republicans brought Smirnov’s claims to light last summer as part of their investigation into alleged corruption in the Biden family.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) obtained and published an FBI file recording Smirnov’s claim that Mykola Zlochevsky, owner of a Ukrainian gas company, Burisma, which employed the president’s son, had paid Hunter and Joe Biden $5 million in bribes.

For months, Republicans have claimed the bribery allegation had come from a credible source. According to the Justice Department, the allegation had been made up.

Smirnov could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Barr, found not to be supported by facts, and subsequently dropped. When Comer’s team demanded to see the document, FBI officials warned that wider disclosure of the information could jeopardize the safety of a confidential source.

Raskin said the FBI and Justice Department under then-Attorney General William P. Barr reviewed the allegations contained in the form and determined there were no grounds of further investigative steps. Comer has asserted that the FBI representatives in Monday’s meeting refused to answer some of his questions because they said the information in the form was being used in an ongoing investigation.

And Barr said in an interview with a conservative news outlet Wednesday that the investigation had not been closed down and that the tip was passed along to the Delaware Attorney General’s office for further investigation.
