First GOP senator calls for vote on Garland court nomination

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Mark Kirk became the first Republican senator to break with party leaders and call for a vote on President Barack Obama's Supreme Court selection, saying Friday, "It's just man up and cast a vote."

The statement by Kirk, who faces a difficult re-election battle this fall in Democratic-leaning Illinois, came two days after Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy created by the February death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Garland, a Chicago native, is chief judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Kirk's stance directly contradicts the path charted by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., that most GOP senators have followed. McConnell has said for weeks that there will be no Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for any Obama nominee for the vacancy and no confirmation vote by the Senate.

How dare a member of the Republican Party think for himself, and shockingly not do as he was told.. It is something a Republican should never do and an act that is rarely seen by an elected member of the GOP caucus. As sure the daily sunrise he will soon be challenged by a loyal member of the Party of Limbaugh, and funding for his reelection will stop, as the next loyal sheep reaps the benefits from toeing the line of orthodoxy.

Sen and leader McConnell has proven to be The Man; leading his flock in the quest to make Obama a one term president, and framing every act by his flock with the pretense of putting our Country First.

Lieberman no longer represented the will of the people in his home state, his focus was on Israel and thus he lost the primary, but won the general and returned to the Senate where he was allowed to keep his chairmanship notwithstanding his prior support for McCain in the 2008 election. He never renounced his party affiliation and caucused with the D Party (see his bio on Wikipedia if you really care to know more).

Shutup RINO.

The RINO's are the extremists like the above goofball who do not represent the majority of GOPs.

Garland is qualified and should be approved immediately.

Turtle man is making a joke out of the GOP and handing the senate over to the DEMs.

Add Lindsey Graham to the list. He stated he'd rather lose, meaning have Hillary as President,, than with with someone he doesn't like from his own party.

Ain't the GOP fun? Watching this civil war is better than any Reality TV show!

Just sit back and enjoy as those Conservatives with as much political acumen and subtlety as a meat cleaver slice and dice the
republican party like so much celery for stuffing.

This purge is rivaled only by those championed by Stali9n. Who's Conservative enough and what might that benchmark be? Stay tuned as the Right Wing augers into the ground like a downed Messerschmitt!

Almost as much fun as watching the Republicans obliterate the entire Democratic party in 2014 leaving them beaten on the ground while kicking dirt in their faces and laughing.

A poor student of history might take that view. But when one considers the fact that each and every two term president since World War II has lost political control of both houses of congress after the mid term elections held during his second term, one realizes that history was not made in 2012, it was merely repeated.

Don't worry Ramblow the good people of IL got it under control.

Tammy Duckworth stands ready to take over in November.

Why don't you focus on some of the other GOP senators running for reelection -- find something wrong with them and get back to us.

Yep, he thought for himself but still was allowed to keep his chairmanship and caucus with the Democrats. No one labeled him as a "DINO" or tossed him under the bus. None of which the R Party would have done, he would have been tossed under an 18-wheeler as quick as you could say "No new taxes" which cost GHWB a Second term.

Dude the Democratic party lost over 1,200 seats nationally, you have to go all the way back to 1921 to find a Democratic party beating that epic. They got spanked bad.
