Florida has more gun homicides

And of course.......murder is down across the contra..as more Americans have bought and carried guns...who says? The FBI....

Murder

  • In 2014, the estimated number of murders in the nation was 14,249. This was a 0.5 percent decrease from the 2013 estimate, a 3.2 percent decrease from the 2010 figure, and a 14.9 percent drop from the number in 2005.
  • There were 4.5 murders per 100,000 people. The murder rate fell 1.2 percent in 2014 compared with the 2013 rate. The murder rate was down from the rates in 2010 (6.1 percent) and 2005 (20.8 percent). (See Table 1/1A)
And the anti gun argument dies another death....

Gun-loving Florida has more gun deaths, study shows | Post On Politics

Homicide by firearm claims 4.5 people for every 100,000 Floridians, compared with an average 3.5 Americans, the report found. Florida, of course, has a lot of guns — increasing the statistical odds.

Doesn't sound like concealed carry lowers homicide.

There are 19.8 million people in Florida. So 4.5 per 100,000 would work out to around 895 gun murders. There are 1.7 million concealed carry permit holders.

So with that many concealed carry if it lowered crime rates they should have a lower than average homicide rate. They do not. Carry does not effect crime rates.

Not sure that is accurate. Does Florida have the highest gun murder rate? What has happened to the gun murder rate over the years?

Washington DC has a gun murder rate of around 12 per 100,000 people. And they have some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

I think the issue is far more complicated than a simple correlation between gun murders and population size.

It is certainly very complicated. But with a whole lot of conceal carry they have a higher than average homicide rate and it is increasing rather than decreasing.

They just passed the 1,000,000 million carry permit mark...and they had 10 more murders.....wow.....you are a moron.....

Florida just passed 1,500,000 concealed carry permit holders in 2015.......2014...as they were growing their numbers, was the lowest crime year in over 40 years......with an increase in gun murder of 10.........

And of course......the people carrying guns for self defense are not committing murder with those guns.....and in 2015.....again, you now have more felons released by obama.....more criminal immigrants in the country, gun crime prosecutions at the federal level are down......and then they complain about the crime rate....

And concealed carry reaches 1.5 million 9/17/15

Florida Concealed Carry Permits Reach 1.5 Million, Adding 20,000 Each Month

The total number of people with a Florida concealed carry permit: 1.5 Million

Thanks to the Bill Clinton crime bill.

And concealed carry..........

You shouldn't bring up the crime bill....they are running away from that like the Road Runner from Wiley Coyote......

So is concealed carry really helping? Yes crime has been on a downward trend in Florida till recently, but it did the same in states with low owndership and concealed carry. More guns equals less crime is a myth. All the good studies I have seen agree carry does not effect crime rates.

Policing effects crime rates so they must have less policing.

I just said it doesn't effect crime rates or makes no difference. So you just said 10 from your shady list agree with that moron. Of course your list comes from a disgraced economists website and you can't link to a single good study that doesn't have his name on it that says it decreases crime. And this study isn't on your list either:

A recent and quality study out of Texas no less:

And now for some truth....

No, states with higher gun ownership mean don't have more gun murders

That looks a lot like a shotgun blast, because at least in 2014, the statistical case that high state gun ownership translates to more gun homicides was non-existent.

This is what happens when you just look at the relevant numbers instead of cherrypicking whatever numbers tell the story you want.

There's no significant statistical correlation here, whether or not you choose to include D.C. (the outlier, way up above the others).

And in fact, when you just look at last year's gun homicide rate by state (calculated from FBI and Census data), you see that many of the states that they claim have low "gun death" rates actually have comparatively high rates of gun murders. New Jersey, for example, had a much higher gun murder rate than Idaho and Vermont.

So now you see why Vox, Mother Jones and others deliberately confuse the issue of gun violence by including gun deaths that don't involve violence: because their cherrypicking makes it seem like people in states with high gun ownership are more likely to shoot other people, when in fact it just isn't so.

Perhaps there's another argument to be had about suicide, but it's a very different sort of debate. When most people think about gun control, they're worried about whether it can help stop them from being shot, not about whether it will prevent them from having a gun in case they become incredibly depressed and decide to end it all.
