What historical truth? The civil war was not fought to free slaves. That was visionary statement they used to persuade everyone else go along with it. The north fought the war to prevent the south from turning new territories into slave states. The north wanted poor whites to move to those territories which would not have happened with a free Black labor pool. Dont get confused on the motives. We all know why the south started the war.
