The WWII memorial was built by private funds. It is maintained by privates funds and they have private funds in the bank to cover anything the WWII museum needs.

there was no reason to shut down open air monuments and parks in DC. There was no cost to keep them open, but there was a cost to put up barriers and fences.

The same can be said of the dems, well except for the part about being sorry about the memorial being closed. The republicans argued right up until midnight on the last day and were willing to continue the discussion. It's the democrats who closed up and went home, with Obama's blessing. Now they continue to blame the republicans in the hopes that it will hurt the republicans in the next election but it's only going to backlash against the democrats especially since in the previous government shutdowns, the memorials were kept open.
