Sounds like basic CYA for the facebooks of the world. When people start suing you because you allow hate speech, then you have to spend the money to take it down. All this will accomplish is forcing these companies to spend more money reviewing flagged post. It doesn't stop it, it shortens the time it exist on their site.

You have the right to create your own site that will allow the freedom of speech you wish to convey and if not then you have to obey to the rules of the sites you are using.

Hate speech is entitled to Constitutional protections, no one is seeking to "silence" hate speech through force of law.

And again, private companies are not subject to First Amendment jurisprudence, and are at liberty to regulate speech as they see fit.

My beef is that there are plenty of American politicians that would make the same threats. AND back them up with unfavorable treatment that seems to be within their power to use.

When govt has the power to pick winners/losers and PUNISH corporations, they CAN pretty much demand restrictions on speech from a "private company"
