Got my hopes up a bit when he started with the Cold War, but these were dashed when he avoided the erstwhile unavoidable cause/effect discussion that would lead us to a logical moral to the story; that fundamentalism became a threat because subversive elements within our government fueled it, and even armed it. Yes, that's the progressive "back-up plan", in the event they can't criminalize religion and throw people in jail if they dare to quote the bible in public.
