Georgia Senate blocks mega tax cuts for Delta in response to Delta punishing law abiding NRA

The most embarrassing part of this is that frauds that try and pass themselves off as conservatives cheer this sort of government intrusion.

How is NOT giving a company a tax break, a government intrusion?

When the government explicitly states that it will deny tax breaks because of a political decision by the company in question, the "intrusion" becomes pretty clear
Any company that needs to be patronized by conservatives and liberals should not make political decisions that affect one side or the other disproportionately.

There are 5 million NRA members who got these "discounts". That leaves roughly 318 million not getting them. Which of those numbers is more disproportionate?
You are assuming that all NRA members fly Delta. I am a Life Member and an Endowment Member. I never fly Delta.

Delta also gives discounts and extra frequent flyer miles to other patrons that may or may not be NRA members. Delta uses certain credit cards to offer discounts on flights and extra sky miles for dining at favored restaurants, staying at favored hotels, renting from favored agencies...as long as you use the card for all purchases. This discriminates against people that don't use credit cards.

I wonder how this thread would be going, had this been a liberal Lt. Governor, about discounted airfare for Planned Parenthood members?
How about let's discuss the topic of the thread, fuckwit?

Planned Parenthood is not a private company. Except for the selling of baby body parts, it is a non-profit organization...heavily funded by the US government.

Delta Airlines is also not a private company. It is a publicly held corporation. Buy some stock.

You take the cake calling someone else a fuckwit, fuckwit!

It appears my hypothetical has flown over your head.

Maybe there's an adult around that could explain it to you?

Perhaps Delta and United (and anyone else jumping on the bandwagon, afterwards) should just pull out of ATL altogether.

Leave the scumbag State Senators with nothing but puddle-jumpers and scores of unused and rusting gates.

Delta Airlines is being threatened with losing a tax break if they don’t play along and support the NRA with their discounts.

Delta joined a chorus of companies breaking ties with the NRA, and the Georgia GOP is not having it.

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, a Republican, vowed Monday to kill any tax break for Delta, which is headquartered in Atlanta, unless the airline revived its discount program.

“Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back,” Cagle said.

Of course, let’s not get Hypocrisy and Irony Whiplash from the fact that these same conservatives love, love, money as speech, a la Citizens United. Just so long as it’s speech they approve of.

Delta, of course, wants to extract itself from a controversial position, since they want to carry both liberal and conservative passengers to their destinations. But the GOP feels ‘threatened’ by a company taking a neutral stance.

Delta could, of course, discontinue discount programs any old time they want. It’s a business decision. And the health of Delta, headquartered in Atlanta, is directly responsible for the health of the State of Georgia.

But that won’t stop the state’s conservatives from kicking the airline directly in the gonads, and all because they wish to discontinue their support of the gun-loving death merchants.

Conservatives really do see this as an existential issue. They just don’t give a shit about the poor, dead kids for whom it really, truly was an existential issue.

WHAT?????!!!! Tax breaks are NOT a right. Companies that are punishing the NRA when the NRA had nothing to do with the FL shooting should expect Republican-controlled legislatures to take a second look at any state tax breaks they are getting.

This fascist campaign against the NRA is disgraceful. Good for the Georgia legislature.

Why should the government favor one private business over another in a squabble between the two?

thread number 4 on this topic

The mods are free to merge the topics. The only one I saw was a locked thread.

It will become a much bigger topic if Delta moves the operation out of the state. And it won't be delta that ends up getting hurt.

It is not our job to merge your thread.

It is your job to check for existing threads.

Is that beyond your capabilities?

Wow!

On your planet 5,000,000 people attended the NRA convention and got discounts. Do you consider 5,000,000 seat capacity convention center large, medium or just small?

Discounts on this planet (Earth or....perhaps to you "Gaia"), applied only to people going to the NRA convention and there were far, far fewer than 5,000,000. Oh wait, NRA membership is mandatory on your world?

Not at all. You were wondering how the thread would be going if we were talking about something else. The topic of the thread includes Delta, the NRA, and the Georgia state government.

Just heard about this. Will find a link. Kudos to the Senators for hitting back at the NRA. Why should gun owners in Georgia who pay taxes have to support Delta financially?

If Delta doesn't want or need the business of 5 million NRA members why do they even need a tax break?

Delta’s tax break may not take flight after Georgia Senate blocks it

How dare companies exercise their rights eh?

I wonder if they'd do the same thing if Delta broke with Planned Parenthood.

Well, my bad, I thought they were discounts to every member like the car rental discounts for NRA members. I didn't realize they were only for one weekend a year. Thanks for the update.

The government targeting individuals and/or companies and using taxation a weapon is absolutely wrong.

Why would a conservative tolerate this, regardless of the cause?
