Goodbye First Amendment: California School Bans Books By Christian Authors

Carb what a tool.

Just ADMIT that censorship by ANYONE is wrong.

Butch up sally.

Really? So every public school library should be required to put Hustler magazine, and the like, on the magazine rack?

Every public school computer system should not filter internet access?

Seriously?

You people are all the same, your FIRST instinct is to take EVERYTHING out to it's most illogical extreme, that only works with others who are as weak minded as you are.

We aren't talking about Hustler are we Carb?

When someone tells me that censorship by ANYONE is wrong,

I'm not amiss in assuming that anyone means anyone.

Now apologize for being an ass, or at least apologize for being inadequately articulate to participate, unaided, in an adult conversation.
Do you believe conservative political books shouldn't be allowed in a school library?

Why would I ?

It is very telling though that the Left views anything written by a "Christian" as the same as pornography.

Sick, but telling.

The sick thing is you took what he said, and twist it so much that you come to conclusions that are incredible. Surely at school you should have learnt enough skills to be able to figure things out, seems not, how sick is that?

Sorry, no.
He equated anything Christian with Pornography and that's exactly what he meant.

I've bitch slapped up one side and down the other in this thread kid, by all means continue.

That is exactly the kind of flailing and denying that those of us with brains find so entertaining on this forum.

You're an idiot. It was your post that comprehensively condemned censorship in an unqualified manner.

In fact, now that you're denying it, you're only proving that you support censorship, but only if you get to set the censorship agenda to your own specific liking.

Typical rightwing tyranny.

You should have stopped at the word 'sorry', as in, for this thread.

All you have to do to clear the air is to say,

'yes, I do support government censorship."

Didn't the superintendent say that they did carry the popular Christian book that the first article said they did not carry, and didn't she say that she could not carry ANY book promoting religion on the Curriculum's Stock shelves which is bought with State funds.... thus being required to follow State Law on this, but that they had a full selection of religious books that were donated, and the parents that want to teach with these books can get them from this donated selection of books?

So WHAT is the problem, if what the superintendent said is true....there should be no problem with this....?

Obviously you don't get it, as this is an inane and ridiculous inference.

Private schools are at liberty to determine what books will be available to their students, where any restrictions do not constitute 'censorship,' as only government has the authority to censor, and private sector entities are not subject to Constitutional restrictions.

Public schools, on the other hand, are subject to Establishment Clause jurisprudence, where if there are books or teaching materials that promote the Christian religion absent a secular purpose which manifests in an excessive entanglement between religion and state, then those books and materials are likely in violation of the First Amendment and removal of the books is appropriate, as this also does not constitute 'censorship.' (Lemon v. Kurtzman (1971)).

Rather than engaging in ridiculous inferences and insults, why not instead research the subject, provide objective, documented information as to what exactly the school's status is, what its policy is with regard to the books, and its rational concerning the removal of the books, so there can be an accurate and meaningful examination of the issue.

I do not deal in illogical extremes, they are the refuge of the weak.

YOU obviously don't get it.

IF we were talking about TEXTBOOKS like Carb tried to foist on us awhile back I might agree with you.

BUT we aren't, t's been extended to "Christian Authors".

Never mind the current "interpretation" of the Establishment Clause is in no way even close to anything remotely like the original intent.

It seems that some "educators" are engaging in what can only be called a war on Christianity. Citing a report by the Pacific Justice Institute, Truth Revolt said Friday that a charter school in Temecula, California, thumbed its nose at the Constitution and the Supreme Court when it recently targeted and banned Christian-based books from its library. It also singled out books by Christian authors and publishers.

The Pacific Justice Institute said it received a complaint from a parent shocked to see the list of banned reading material. Among the books deemed inappropriate by the school was "The Hiding Place," the well-known account of Holocaust survivor Corrie ten Boom, who hid Jews from the Nazis because of her strong Christian beliefs. Newsbusters said ten Boom's story has "inspired millions." But the school disapproves because it was written by a Christian, and that is simply unacceptable in today's politically-correct environment where evil is rapidly replacing good."

It's obviously a Pro-Christian site, full of plots against Christians.

And if you believe that then maybe you need to spend a few years in the school being talked about.

Correct.

Which is why the OP needs to provide objective, documented information from a neutral news source.

Otherwise it's just more of the same lies from the right.

That's not how it works Clayton.
If you don't like the source shot it isn't correct....but then you can't because we already have the Superintendents response posted...so now you are left to simply saying "nuh-uh".

An anonymous source is not 'objective.'

If you do live in the area, however, you are at liberty to locate a reliable, neutral news source, such as a local TV affiliate, and post the link if available.
